it can also be the result of hardware issues.

I dont think i have the cd. I work from home, and they gave me the computer from my office, so I would have to search there to find it.

Incorrect. You can most definitely get the blue screen of death via overheating. The most popular BSOD caused by overheating is the 9C-MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION error. This sounds a lot like some sort of hardware error to me honestly, unless you have a program in the background that is executing improperly... :notsure: Wanna do a data log for us, and then we could at least rule out a couple things.

You'll need to install http://www.malwarebytes.org/ it's a software issue. Then clean your computers hard drive up. Run anti virus also, and maybe defrag. A conflict in software is the most common thing to cause blue screen.

If its a hard disk issue, its most likely a hardware issue. Dust and overheating has a big part to do with it. Where i work our computers sit on the ground. When i do maintenance on them i clean them out and you would think its a sandstorm with all the dust that comes out. When a CPU/GPU overheats and is covered by dust the heat cannot get proper airflow. When the heat has no where to go, it fries the hardware components.

Just because it referenced the hard drive doesn't mean thats the problem. At the bottom of the blue screen there will be a code, eg. 0x000000. That code will tell you most everything you need to know. As of right now with the information you have given it could be anything.

More than likely its something in the OS is corrupted. Do you know how to post a data log? It would tell us the code since you said it only happens once a week.

First do this because most computers are configured to restart automatically:

1.) Right Click on My Computer and choose properties (or Computer for Windows 7/Vista then on the left click "Advanced System Settings")

2.) Go to the Advanced tab, then under Start Up and Recovery, click settings.

3.) Uncheck "Automatically Restart". Click OK.

So once it blue screen's again you can actually catch the error codes and write it down. I circled what we'll need. The "gv3.sys" part is really useful too, it could end up being just a driver that got corrupt (yours will be different from gv3.sys, i just got that picture from the web.)

could be a driver/hardware issue,.... in my experience, i'll get a problem every so often w/ the video card... i also blame the windows screensaver/powermgmt crap for causing problems too..

You can also try doing a system restore. Choose a restore point from before the problem started occuring. Booting into safe mode will give you the option (hold down the F8 key while booting and choose safe mode.
