body armor 4x4 tacoma bumper

I have no major complaints with the body armor front or rear bumper. Installed a warn M 800 winch no problem. Fitment between the headlights and bumper aren't ideal but I paid 695 for it from 4wp and all the other bumper manufacturers want at least a 1000 to start, up to 1500 for a bumper. It's says the factory fog lights will fit with applied bracket, no bracket was included. Called BA and said not on the newer 12-13 models. So I bought some 4'' hid pro comps ffor fog light. Good choice. And pc 7'' on top of the bumper. Drilled the mounting holes about 4'' ahead of the holes the put in as the hid ballast stuck back pretty far.

 

thats a nice truck man no disrespect but imo gotta say that front bumper is disgusting lol, and bolt on recovery points? why not just burn them on

 

im more interested in this than any other just because it retains the factory hitch as i will do a lot more towing than offroading, and there are no guarantees with anything aftermarket.

the recovery points bolt directly to the frame mount thats used to hold the bumper on, and i actually kind of like that as later on i can fabricate my own tire/cooler/whatever mount setup to bolt on/off whenever i like.


however fitment issues sound consistent. it sounds like people may be having less fitment issues recently as manufacturing may have switched facilities or processes or something, can anybody attest to that? or is there any chance mounting locations are slightly different on different truck models?

Throwing my 2-cents in the ring regarding Body Armor. I ordered the side steps. They arrived last week, installing them today I hope. When I got them though, it looked like the box was used as a sword in a sparring match between Jaegers. The ends were scuffed...not bad enough to send back - a little Rustoleum fixed that right up. I will give the benefit of the doubt and blame that on the delivery company. However, once I finished that I noticed that the rails had a slight curve to them...nothing major; I only noticed it when I was looking for other scuffs to paint. I'm hoping it won't be noticeable once installed. We'll see. I can't imagine the curve is by design!!

 

I installed them yesterday...once on they look good, but I wasn't impressed with the installation. While the brackets are sufficient, they aren't that beefy. In addition, I'm disappointed with the front bracket. Body Armor supplies 3 identical 2-bolt-hole brackets for each side. However, on my '14, the front attachment point bolt hole pattern is different (not sure what year it changed if it did), so I could only use 1 bolt. Not a big deal really as the steps are more for looks than anything. But still, kinda lazy of Body Armor to say the steps are '14 compatible when they technically aren't.

Oh, and the slight curve I mentioned isn't noticeable.

 

I have the front, rear and tire swing arm now and love em... front bumper can be a pain to install but its solid. Looking to get the side and sport rack system soon... Body armor customer service is great,

 

was looking to order the rear bumper but this thread is scaring me...

 

they don't look like they help with clearance at all. if anything, the rear looks like it hangs down further?

 

While the fit of some of their products may be less than ideal, I personally like the look of their products...the hard angles give a rugged look. That's what I love about the side steps I have from them...they are closer to the body and add a more aggressive look than the factory tube steps.

To each his/her own though! If we all liked the same stuff all of our tacos would look the same...then we would just be Ford.

 

I understand you get what you pay for, so what I read scares me to a point. Interested in getting the rear bumper, so I don't think it has as many fitment issues as the front. My only issue is I hate the "off-center" license plate mount. Are these holes pre drilled? I'd prefer the plate center.

 

Purchased Body Armour rear bumper. I'll post my opinion after install.

 

I have stuck with the folks here, and can't be beat. I get compliments on mine all the time and a bunch of "I wish they made then for my vehicle"

 

I'd like to bump this... How is the rear bumper holding up?

I can get Body Armor stuff for 40% 0ff (approx $330)

Just wondering if it would be worth it... I don't really like how it sticks out from the truck so far. The tire carrier is only an extra $200. It looks much better with that but I don't need it.

 

Any suggestion on how to fix?

I purchased this truck with rear bumper already on, cant speak to how it was installed. Have checked the brackets and bolts to see if anything has moved since installation and all looks good.

I really just think the product was not level before installation, slightly bowed.

Any ideas on how to fix...

 

There are bolts inside underneath and you can loosen them and adjust the bumper.

 

I see that everyone who gave me crap two years ago about "bashing" Body Armors bumpers can now eat a little Crow.

I spent hours whittling on their stuff to get it all to fit. Elongating holes, grinding stuff down, shimming, you name it to get it to fit properly and line up straight on my truck. Im still worried about the rear bumper not holding up well in a crash due to it not being bolted / connected to my factory tow hitch like the stock bumper was.

I have had nothing but issues with the tire carrier. The flimsy latch completely broke one day and my spare tire swung out full to the right while driving. There was another vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the road and it was a miracle that when I moved over for them that I didn't hit the truck and the guys standing out side of it. I was completely sick thinking about having just narrowly missed killing someone. I am fortunate that there was not oncoming traffic as this was a two lane road and the shoulders were very narrow.

I had to completely redesign and build a new latch. Every time I drive now I walk behind the truck and check that the tire rack is secure. There is no good way to put a chain on it to MAKE SURE that it dose not come loose again.

I just bought a new 2014 4X4 FJ for the wife and I laughed my head off when I saw that Body Armor is making FJ stuff now. No way I would ever chance buying their stuff again. Purchased Warrior front and rear bumpers for that truck that went on smooth as glass.

I am going to take off the Body armor stuff off my Taco change it out for the Warrior products. Their front bumpers come with a brush guards which I really wanted and couldn't get with Body Armor. I can live without the rear tire carrier. Its going to be ashamed that Ive got to mount my matching spare bead lock wheel and tire under the truck. Might decide to look at a more sturdy roof rack and put it up there.

Someone let me know how to post pics and I will put mine up.

 

DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM BODY ARMOR.
