I know they used to be frowned upon in my circle. But it’s real tempting to slap a 1 incher under there in order to fit 33”s. Hardly noticeable

If you're just driving around, sure, go for it. I think a spacer lift would be less work personally.

Yeah I did 2.5” with suspension this summer but it wasn’t quiet satisfying enough. Seems like it made my tires look way smaller

If you did that much on springs, then you should be able to fit 33s with a little trimming of the cab mount and mud flaps.

Well the flaps are gone so I guess I’m half way there. I’m sure there’s a thread on trimming the cab mounts huh?

Several people on here with a 2" lift that run 33s; just massage that fender a bit.

@Tacomeat2019 cab mount chop is not necessary on first gens...

There are TONS of threads on how to fit 33's on first gen Tacomas.

2-3" lift, hammer the pinch weld.

Things are made easier if you carefully select the right wheel backspacing, and perhaps don't get super fatty 33's

I think that’s partly what’s holding me back. I put on some 2018 stock wheels partly because they looked good and partly out of necessity but now my tires are deep inside the wells

    Different backspacing.

You can fix that with some quality wheel spacers; it'll push your wheels out away from the frame but the possibility of rubbing with your fenders is still there.

As I mentioned above, pinch weld mod.

Tons of information on it, including a write up by @turbodb

    Yep, that's pretty common.

People will fix that with wheel spacers, but those are about as lame as body lifts, lol...

But I'd do the wheel spacers before a body lift. Make sure you get hub-centric ones.

Cool thanks. I’ve considered wheel spacers a time or two but when researching, I always see mixed opinions on them. Also I’ve heard some tire shops won’t mess with your rig if you have them??

Hence why I used the word "quality"

Spidertrax is one company that I know of, can't say anything about the rest. And to ensure you have no issues, follow the proper procedure for installing as well as torqueing everything to spec. Don't half ass any part of this.

And yes there are plenty of shops that won't mess with a wheel spacer cause they don't want the liability, but aside from getting new tires, your truck shouldn't be seeing a shop at all.

    DIY I say.

There's nothing wrong with a body lift. And, if what you're looking to do is clearance larger tires, then a small body lift will do a much better job at that than the suspension lifts that everyone talks about as being "better."

There are two reasons for that - first - people are comparing suspension lifts to block lifts (for the suspension components). Second, they hear about a 1" body lift and figure that's the same thing as a block lift, since it's not a suspension lift.

Here's a good article that talks about the differences, and why a body lift might be a good thing for you, for clearancing. Note: in your case, I'd probably add some wheel spacers (or even change up the wheels to something with more appropriate backspacing) as well/first.

What size tires fit my lifted Tacoma?
