Body Mount Bushing Install - now with pictures! And a video too!!!

Do not pry the collar open, you only have to remove one of the bolts. The shaft and the collar are splined and the bolt works like a cotter pin, it fits into a " U " groove in the shaft. Spray some PB Blaster on it all for a couple days before you try to remove the bolts.

 

The factory spec is 34 ft.lbs.

 

And mine are at like 85...

I fixed mine and then covered them in mud!

 

I just remembered that the dealer never called to tell me the new nuts I ordered had come in . Thanks for the reminder.

Are these non-reusable nuts special? Or can you just get them at Home Depot?

 

They're nylon lock nuts. I reused my factory ones.

 

So with proper torque the bushings don't make noise?

 

Proper torque and a little clay mud splashed on them is great!

 

Frame replaced in February.Noisy loud growning body bushings.Couldent break bolts loose .1/2 " breaker bar.Oh boy.loud loud creeking hell!.Will fix some To Damn Hot out...

 

In the aircraft industry they have that called wet installed, meaning every single rivets and some mainframe hardware are installed with a dubbed of sealant to the shank to prevent the leak and squeaky sounds. I am not doing this mod but it's a good idea to put a good premium type sealant on any of these mounts, my two cents idea from A&P Mechanic

 

Someone help me out. The kit only has 6 body mount bushings but pictures of frame is showing 8 mounting locations?

Just bolted in. Cab and Bed are not tied together, just to the frame. So there's no need for bushings on the bed.

 

Like others have said, there are only six (6) bushings to replace. Two at the core support (item 1 in picture below), commonly referred to as the radiator support bushings. And four for the cab (items 2 and 3 in illustration below.

Is this the picture you were referring to when you saw two more? I see item 4 in the diagram with the call out to the hardware. I looked up the part number, it's listed as a body support holder which is weird because that's the tapered back end of the frame, and the only thing back there is the bumper / hitch with it's own hardware, and the bed, which has it's own six T-55 bolts holding it to the frame.

Either way, it's nothing to worry about. You're only after items 1,2,3.

 

Jeez, that drawing is confusing as heck...now I understand the OP's confusion. I bet what looks like 6 #3's is just the representation of the rear bushing location with a reg cab, ext cab and dbl cab.

I've had my bed off a few times, #4 looks exactly like the diagram they are just small cone shaped pegs. There are 2 at the back and 2 at the front bolts too from what I remember. They are locators and drop into holes next to the body bolts. So, you drop the bed on the frame and when those pegs hit their holes the bed drops into place and is perfectly lined up and the bolt holes are perfectly aligned.
