Had the same issue. Moisture must get trapped in there somehow. I wire brushed my bolts, and coated them with grease to help slow it down.

That's really wierd. Is it the same situation on both sides?
I'm really jealous of the impact. I'll be doing it the old fashioned way.

    Thanks Tor.

    Probably so.

My guess is that the corrosion has to do with the choice of plating of the bolt.

Very smart to grease the bolts. I generally do the same.

My new favorite grease is the Prothane Super grease. It's adhesion and waterproof qualities are nothing short of incredible. NASA grade stuff.

Your experience is vast, and you probably know of it. lol

    Love the cordless electric impact.

Buy yourself one for Xmas, or birthday. You wrench a lot and it will save you a ton of time. :)

I haven't got the drivers side yet, but I bet it's the same. When I did the radiator bushings, drivers side bolt was corroded too.

It appears the coating on the radiator and back body bolts is a crappy black oxide finish or its a phosphate oil finish.

Plating is difficult to tell visually... Whatever it is, it's not very good.

The front cab bolt looks zinc chromate coated to me and, it's in excellent shape.

Not sure why Toyota specified different types of bolts for the same application. Very interesting question.

    Completed the install.

What a pain in the ass.

I had complications with cab alignment after doing the second side, this was mainly due to my work site being on a slight incline. It didn't seem to matter for the first side, but it definitely mattered after the second side. I fixed it by rolling the truck backwards slowly and stopping suddenly, cab slid backwards a few CM and all was well. :D

My core support is also f***ed up on the drivers side a little bit making the bolt removal and install another PITA. lol

    Other notes:

I decided to retire my E.S. universal radiator bushings and went to kit bushings.

And it turns out that all my cab mounts were in excellent shape. There was nothing really wrong with any of them as far as I could tell. Slight cracking on both rear mounts at the bottom. Front cab mounts had some cracking under the top plate neck area. I had suspected that one was damaged, but it was not the case. And in my opinion, the Toyota OE cab mounts are very high quality. Had I known that they were all fine, I would have left them alone.

I also noted that the front and rear Toyota OE cab mounts have different part numbers, and are physically different, very slight though.

New bushings did nothing for my Taco lean. Zero. It's exactly the same as it was before. And it makes sense, it really shouldn't unless one or more is damaged or worn out, etc.

I did grease the shit out of the sleeves when assembling, left the washers mostly dry.

I've only got 6 miles on the truck post install, but should be in the dirt soon to see if there is any notable difference. So far on the street I can't tell any difference.

I'm going to drive the truck for a few days and see if I note any differences.

I took pics of install and bushings and posted them in my build here

I could use a front drivers quarter bushing install...
I seem to be missing one up at the very front in front of the radiator.
If any one has something used, they could ship... I'll be grateful.

Do you still have the bolt? The nut?

How about a pic of missing bushing?

You're in sandiego... That may be the reason for the rust...

Let's see if I can find that info. Pics on another thread ...

I see. It was as I thought. Truck was maintenanced and they didn't put it back together or vibrated apart.

I can send you my ES universal bushings i just took out. They are awesome and in excellent shape.

You need a nut for the bolt.

PM me your shipping address and I'll send.

This shouldn't surprise anyone but the tacoma specific kit doesn't fit 3rd gens. The bushing looks about right and the main bolt works but the mounting plate is different. The bolt holes on the mounting plate are too close. Gotta make new plate.

Man, does anyone know if Toyota replaced these when replacing the frame. Sure Wish I knew this before because I would have had them replace them with factory ones. Dam!!

The factory bushings are the problem. The newer models seem to have worse bushings.

Never really had an issue with mine, but was just curious because she has 120k and figured everything else is new, so why not replace these to. But it does look like a lot of work to change them out and guys are having issues with the new ES ones

Him and myself. Mine only clunk from the rear ones. Trying to figure out if it is the bolts binding to the inner sleeve because the bolts are rusty, or if the bushings themselves are contributing to the noise.

Regardless, they work well and are an improvement over stock.

I still haven't reduced the torque on mine, but they're one of the less noisy parts of my truck.

    What's tweaked?

I need to try that myself. I just zapped them on with all the available power the cordless impact had.
