    non yet :(
Does anyone have any experience going to an insurance "partner shop" vs an independent shop?
Just talked with an independent and they said they had heard a lot of customers got screwed by going to one the insurance company favors....Any personal experiences?
    Thanks

Insurance favored shops generally are required to give more warranty on their work.

Either way, the key is actually knowing the shop, checking on the work as it progresses, and insisting on OE parts.

Not sure if it's the law everywhere, but here in MD you can go to whatever shop you choose (and obviously a shop not affiliated with an insurance company is going to be working in YOUR best interest, not the insurance company's).

If I want to mod the truck it’s a lot easier if the check is sent to me vs being sent to the body shop from the insurance company. I’ve never used one of the shops on the insurance companies list. I know who I want working on mine and usually they don’t partner.

    Actually, not always.

There are non insurance affiliated independent shops that take short cuts all day, every day.

Again, knowing the shop and seeing examples of their work is key

Well, sure -- of course. I was suggesting that the OP go to a trusted shop of his choosing.

You’re way better off going to an independent shop. Especially if your carrier only uses aftermarket parts. This coming from someone in the industry working in both kinds of shops

I had an accident in my truck a few years ago and they had their list of "preferred shops" to take it to . I knew a lot of the shops on the list and know their reputation for the work they do. So I had the dealership I work at fix it. I trust the guy who fixed my truck and if anything happens again, I'll have him fix again.

I've always had a good experience working with the shop that my insurance wanted me to. They've done good work, have a good rep, and they're work ends up having a better warranty. Plus the ease of getting the rental and all paperwork done in one visit is nice.

That is the law in all 50, supposed prevent price fixing and insurance company control.

Preferred shops usually get parts faster and turn around is quicker due to less paperwork and they usually have an approved estimator on staff.

Independent shops usually have more “freedom” to use reclaimed or non oe parts,as long as the estimator says it is ok.

Either way, the work can be good or bad.
Preferred shops do have a better warranty on the work.....some are lifetime.

    Just fyi
