I agree welding the frame will not hurt it but disagree that welded is the way to go. In order for the bolt on sliders to fail, you'd have to snap several grade 8 bolts (assuming that's what you used, if you went cheap on the hardware then shame on you). That is no easy task and I have yet to see a thread where someone actually managed to 'break off' bolt on sliders. If everything is mounted up properly and all bolts properly torqued, I don't see the benefit of weld on vs. bolt on other than you can't remove them to touch them up from trail damage or salt.

a member here who will remain nameless has bolt on sliders and one bolt was either sheared or vibrated out and the slider hit the rocker. I have weld on and dont have to worry about that...

That's why you go with Shrockworks and drill only 3 holes per side. ;)

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.

I totally agree with you on that one I myself would never run bolt on sliders but that's just a personal preference. for most of the wheelers on this site bolt on would be fine. But Ive seen hard hits with bolt on sliders (I don't know what kind) but they move way too much for my taste but those are HARD hits i'm talking 2' drops right on the slider and most guys here don't wheel that hard.

That being said OP bolt on sliders should be fine for you with the light wheeling your planing on doing.

I went with the demello bolt on sliders.
You can bolt them up without any drilling if you don't plan to beat on them, but 4 holes per side are all you have to put in if you do.
Super easy to install, super beefy. I have also done the high lift deflection testing, no budging at all. Hit them a few times on a trail, and they are just as they were.
Bolt on done right, is just as strong as a weld on job. Don't be afraid to go either route.

We believe our sliders are the best offering on the market. Our latest version has many features that others don't offer including:

    • Beefy .134 wall tubing
    • Proven Kickout design (not all kickouts function properly)
    • Fully Gusseted
    • Made in the USA (unlike TG's from China)
    • Bolt-On Design with Minimal Frame Drilling (we use many existing holes)
    • 3/16" Thick Frame Mounting Plate for Added Strength & Reinforcement
    • Angled Up to Provide the Most Amount of Ground Clearance
    • Optional Dimple Die Fill-Plates
    • Grade 8 Hardware Included
    [IMG]

I've ran both versions on my truck. My original ones were first bolted on (16 holes per side), then welded on, then cut off to bolt on our latest version, and yet no problems with my frame! I'm still running them bolted on and they have been plenty strong enough on some of the hardest trails around.

Also, to set the record straight, our older style required notching of the pinch weld for proper installation. Those who had problems with them "hitting the body" did not do this. Our new version uses square legs instead, but we still recommend notching the pinch weld.

I agree with the others that mentioned Shrockworks. I love my sliders and they did save me a few times so far. I also use a Hi-Lift Jack on them with no problems at all. Very well, sturdy product. I'd buy them again in a second

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
Bolt on with proper design and hardware is easily strong enough for sliders. As far as I know, winches have been bolted onto bumpers that are bolted onto frames that are bolted, riveted and welded together for some time now without notable failure.

Agreed, quality bolt ons will work fine.

There are hundreds if not thousands of sets of weld-on sliders out there. If there was a problem with the method, it would be known.

    There is no problem.

Whatever method you choose, hybrid sliders come highly recommended. Square tubing takes most of the abuse in these designs and it is beefier than round tube. It's also stiffer and less likley to allow deflection when jacking/using.

Avid bolt-on Sliders are technically not sliders, as they use the Mounting point in the body (same as step bars).

Avid bolt-ons bolt to the tube-step mounts and CANNOT stand up to offroad use.

Did you get a custom set?

and on the flip side, you have to worry about a crappy weld job... both need to be properly installed, and if so, will take plenty of abuse. therefore i choose bolt ons personally.
