Just wanted to drop in and say hello.. Came over from IH8mud and an 80 Series with 4.7L 2UZFE conversion that I recently sold. I've been a Toyota guy for a long time with the 80 Series, 100 Series and still have a 200 Series that the wife drives.

I've always liked the Tacoma and decided in my old age to build something that I can use as a great daily driver, but I plan on a slide in Khaya Camper for weekends and longer getaways.

The 80 Series was great, but over the 7 years I had it, it became less of a Daily Driver and more of a dedicated overland rig... The parts availability is just horrid anymore so I wanted to try this out.. So far I love it and don't really miss the 80 (too much) ..

If you want to take a look, here is the link to the build
    https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/boltrippers-2-year-overdue-build-thread.850135/

Here was the 80 just before I sold it to a great guy in Grass Valley California.

Here was the tacoma when I picked it up... I found it in Hagerstown, MD after an exhaustive search in AL, GA, TX, TX, NC and SC. Seems I always end up traveling for my trucks....

I wanted a 2020 TRD Off Road, AT in MGM w/ Access Cab and 6' Bed as this was being built specifically around the Khaya Camper.

And as she sits now after some great kit that I'll talk about in later posts.

Thanks again for the community and hope to enjoy the Tacoma and Tacoma World.

    Cheers,

    John~

Good move. Tacoma is a hugely versatile platform. Be careful with how much weight you add as you will notice every pound. Other than that, you can’t go wrong. A chameleon truck. Fly down that highway at speed with decent efficiency, turn off into gnarly terrain and keep going. They do it all.

Thanks and yes - This truck is being built with weight and function at the top of the list. In 7 years of 80 Series ownership and a truck that could go anywhere, I've realized what I really need and what I don't.

    Best,

    John

Interior electrical was the first to be completed.. Hard to pull the trigger on a brand new 2020 and immediately pull the interior but needed to be a one and done.

    Will be installing:

Welcome! Nice to see another MUD member here, and from 'Bama to boot (used to live in Bluff Park)!

I also came from an 80 into TRD OR, and haven't really looked back. Enjoy!

Welcome! and that's great looking LC!
In Tacoma, I think you'll miss how roomy LC was.

    Thank you for the welcome...

That was a worry, but I'll probably remove the folding rear seats and build a platform for some storage boxes. I do like the feel of the Tacomas driver compartment and the dimensions are very similar with the 80..... I hope the Camper adds to the livable space and then think I'll be even more than the 80 with RTT....

    Cheers -

Hey @Boltripper ! I'm a MUD guy too. Still have my '91 FJ80 (Aggiesdm on IH8MUD), but considering selling it. Not enough room in the driveway and, as you mentioned, parts are getting especially hard to find for the 3FE/A440 setup. Mine is still running fine, but it needs love that I don't have time to give it!

Enjoy your new Taco. Great trucks..this is my second TRD OR 4x4 and I have no complaints! Nice color too!

Hey brother.. Hope all is well. Yes everyone told me never to sell, but I'm more of the project guy and then move on to the next. I'm looking forward to this trucks build and then enjoying it for a while.

I know, I know .... I love to build them, but then it's time to move on... The 80 was perfect, just decided to go another way.
