Gas mileage is terrible in a Cruiser. :)

You'll find that parts availability is roughly the same for a 3rd gen. You want a front bumper? Oh that'll be 14 weeks. You want a camper? That'll be 12+ months.

    :D

Ended up with a large group of wires for all my planned mods, but found a good place on the firewall and used a proper boot.

Man that 80 was a damn good looking rig. Can't wait to see how this Tacoma builds out!

Just started reading through your mud build thread, 81,000 miles when bought from Georgia, WOW! Funny thing, I bought my 80 from a guy in Birmingham and drove it back to Georgia. I didnt have the same experience, A/C quit on a 98 degree day driving it back to GA. Looking forward to your tacoma build if it's as good as your 80. You do great work! Real clean.

Thats funny - Sorry it was not as pleasant an experience as mine.. Appreciate the comments and hope to do great work on the Tacoma as well.

    Be safe.

So I wanted the 3TPAM to be hot always so I wired it to a Blue Sea distribution block. This way I can charge my devices overnight or when the truck is off.

I also wanted to utilize the 12V plug at the end of the switch row to swap in a Powerwerx QC3.0 USB and 12V meter to keep track of the charge status. I also ran this to the Blue Sea Block for power all the time.

In the 80 Series I went with red underdash lighting, but went blue with the Tacoma to match the rest of the interior lighting. Using the Switch-Pro 9100 allows me to control the brightness. It's just enough to light up the floor area and I can also set it to be constant hot so I can use it at night without having to start the truck.

    IMG_20200402_195534.jpg

I utilized an SDHQ SP-9100 plate and just had to relocate my auto high beam button from this location to the center switch blanks.

So the last of the under bonnet mods was the addition of the ARB twin compressor. This is wired direct to the battery and the control is done with the Switch Pro's SP-9100

The twin mount is from Slee Offroad with some modifications by me. I did not need the air locker manifold and was lucky enough that the hood closed with the air coupler attached directly to the twin compressor.

You can also just see the Victory 4x4 Antenna Mount on the hood hinge for my 2m / 70cm Radio System

So attention was now turned to the suspension upgrades to balance the weight of the Khaya Camper when installed and also provide a nice streatable ride for daily driving.

I went with the OME BP-51 Suspension, this was set up with SPC adjustable upper control arms. I was one of the first to put the BP-51 on the 80 Series and it fit my needs perfectly, so it was a natural transition to the Tacoma. I had Rin @rino at OK4WD set this up for a front bumper and winch so about 20mm of Preload.

Working with Rin and the great folks at OK4WD was just a perfect experience. I've done some major work on Jeeps and Land Cruiser 80,100 and 200 Series, but the Tacoma was a new platform for me and their help and guidance was invaluable during my build.

The rear was next and I went with a set of OME Dakar Medium Rear Leaf Packs (ARBEL095R) along with a set of Firestone Airbags. This would provide for a comfortable ride unloaded and then allow me to take the extra weight of the camper with the airbags.

The airbags were set with a pair of Daystar cradles and extra support was provided with OK4WD's Extension Plates.

Wheels and Tires followed with a full set of AEV Crestline Tacoma Wheels in 17x 8

    IMG_20200307_201428.jpg

Tires were Nitto Ridge Grappler in 255/80/17 - Personal Preference, but I wanted a slim profile and as little tire induced power loss as possible with the build.

    IMG_20200309_204037.jpg

    IMG_20200309_204202.jpg

After Lift, Tires and 10PSI in the bags I ended up with a ground to fender height of 38.5" on the Front and 40.5" on the rear....

Next was 4.88 gears and I went with a set from East Coast Gear..... Again another personal choice, but I won't be going taller than 33" tires and 98% of my daily commute is 75+ mph highway.

Pulled the rear and it was funny still seeing gear marking paint on the stock gears... Granted they had less than 3000 miles on them.

Got everything cleaned up and ready for the East Coast 4.88's

Can't say enough about East Coast.. Great Setup and Customer Service...
