Apparently front differential is toasted on pass side (mystery how it happened, and its coincidence that happened after frame swap). But they are not sure about mysterious 4wd on/off behavior. However for cool almost $3000 grand I can get new front diff that may fix both.
    :D
For that much money I can get guys to install Solid axle on the front and never again deal with this shit... I would not have to touch much, and I have solid axle just for that..
Well I did not expect anything else.

They're recommending that you replace your front differential because of a crimped wire somewhere?

Also, what exactly do you mean by 'toasted'? I'm not sure what that means.

I also don't really see how swapping out a frame could 'toast' a differential.

Take it to a indie mechanic who knows 4 wheel drives.
Let them check the diff bet they tell you something different.

None of this makes any sense. So Toyota swaps the frame, the 4x4 stops working, and now your front diff is "toast"? I'm thinking YOU screwed something up and just don't want to tell us because you're embarrassed.

I must have gotten lucky. I took mine in for the swap about 2-3 weeks ago. They knew I needed a truck for work, and handed me a 2016 Tacoma 4 WD and said this should work. I had them do a clutch job, and also in the process of doing my swap they found a couple items that needed some attention that they did at no charge. It took nine days to get back, no big deal, and the day we got it back I put 200 miles on it after leaving the shop. Checked and made sure the ADD worked, 4 High
and Low, worked great. Since then I have a couple thousand trouble free miles. I also expected some minor issues, but the mechanic that did the swap was very professional and thorough, and did an excellent job. I understand some folks are uneasy about having it done, but at this point after doing so many of them, I believe these guys have it down to a science and know what issues to be on the lookout for before returning a truck.

There is really nowhere a wire can get pinched.

What is toasted in the front passenger side diff?.... CV joint? Bearing? There is not much going on in there... it's just axles and bearings.

Seriously? You have an ass load of posts on how these trucks work and you think the the dealer fucked up your diffy?

A bad connection is not going to screw up the Diffy. Something mechanical was bad to begin with.

How about posting something positive? You got skills, find the issue and post how you fixed it

Otherwise, trade the fucker in, lose your ass on trade in because the front Diffy no longer locks and by something else.

Nice knowing you, but go be someone else's drama queen.

If it's a wire issue, it is very likely the suspect wire going into the connector is compromised. I'd believe that long before the 'pinched wire' theory.

Where wires terminate into the connector and fail, they can be re-crimped with new male/female connectors. A complete wire harness replacement is insane.
