None of the Diesels I owned and own had been pain in maintenance. In fact they all seems to be easier. If you run quality fuel the only maintenance you doing is oil changes in most cars at 15 000 intervals. No sparkplugs to worry, no coils no throttle body to clean and get f up.
I find it amusing that that Emissions constantly get bring up with Diesel, yet particulate filter is exact copy of catalytic converter (actually cheaper and simpler)but nobody says "we should not buy gasoline cars" because the emissions.
I think people fear what they dont understand...

A particulate filter is nothing like a catalytic converter in function. Maybe in appearance .

Particular filters trap particulate , accumulate it , to be burned off by high exhaust temperatures later , during "re-gen" , induced by excess fuel being injected to raise and hold exhaust temps in the 1000 + degree range . When the trapped particulate is consumed the process is over until needed again.

Catalytic converters are constant pass through function after heated . They obviously require heat to the catalyst to help finalize the combustion reactions taking place in the exhaust , so that partially reacted "fuel" chemicals can hopefully complete the reaction and be less harmful as the exit the exhaust . They don't trap anything , or fill up ...

Your earlier ideas on urea injection being similar to air injection are off base as well .

None of this is the point of the thread obviously , but diesel emissions equipment do not work as you imagine I guess

People do indeed fear what they don't understand .

I wrote nothing about how it works.... I wrote that is exact copy of catalytic converter because just like one it needs to remove crap from exhaust gases, and air injection just like urea injection is a way to inject things into exhaust in and attempt to change it. Still requires a device that sits in exhaust to inject liquid or gas, and filter/catlytic converter.

My point is particle filter is easier to deal with than catalytic converter, and urea injection system is simpler than air injection.
Toyota has been installing those systems in their cars in Europe for some time and nobody is really having any big problems with them...

Quality fuel? You've been bragging up how you will run your new Colorado diesel on french fry oil that you will purify in your own backyard with a home made rig...

Only thing that sucks with the particulate filter is when it enters regen and you need the power for towing/climbing/whatever. I know of a few stories of people towing with a good sized load and entering regen on a hill which leads to a pretty ass puckering moment.

Believe or not french fry oil is actually a quality fuel... :D . US is not us bad as Europe, but in Europe people do "christen" fuel to get more money.

That is true, but full regen does not happen very often and its being the same problem with 18 wheeler already. So you just have to be ready when it happens.

I am watching this thread on Colorado forum
    http://coloradofans.com/forums/226-diesel/280970-regen-intervals-noticeabilty.html
so far only one serious problem (limp mode) but there are not many trucks on the road so have to wait for trucks hitting 10 000 miles and up to see if that Colorado is worth the money.

    Sorry missed your post..
Short answer, Toyota has to unbolt and remove front differential from frame in order to replaced, they also have to remove wheels with the suspensions. They did not remove CV's from my hubs because my cotter pins were still there with my mine craft style bend, so they had to remove CV axles from front differential.

It can be a good fuel if it's processed correctly and filtered perfectly. If those two things don't happen it's a good way to destroy a 50K truck really fast. Well, do a couple of grand of damage to it anyways.
Yes, it's a problem on all Diesels with a particulate filter. It sucks on Ram vehicles though because, unlike a semi, you don't get a computer warning that the power loss is coming. Instead you just lose power with no warning. If you are towing 5 hours or more through rough or hilly terrain often it'll happen sooner or later to you and it does suck lol.

Anyways, we don't always see eye to eye to say the least but good luck with whatever you buy. It sucks that Toyota messed up the differential. I know my dealer, and the local Ford dealer, would never use a pry bar in there considering they have a slide hammer available. Up in Canada every shop has to have a certain number of ticketed mechanics, which means they've been through a technical testing and apprenticeship program that takes years to complete, which usually prevents those simple fuck ups that happen due to lack of knowledge.

Yeah I still dont trust GM to not produce some major f uk with Colorado, but so far I like what I see. I am going to give them more time, but for now I need commuter I am probably going to grab Subaru Crostek XV as my DD for now. See how it handles...

I know a few people with them that like them. I almost bought one but went with the Juke because I liked the performance of the Juke.

That 2.0 liter engine is OK and CVT works its magic, but its 34 MPG Highway with AWD system and almost 9 inches off the ground. Can not beat that.

    Why ?

Imagine for a second that this is not happening to me (guy who most people love :) ) but some poor guy with no knowledge about the truck, with wife and kids, a guy that needs truck every day for daily driving to work.
So he would go and put $3000 on his credit card because he needs vehicle to drive to work and he does not know those a holes are scamming him. Toyota probably would try sweetening a deal, by telling poor guy he would be paying $2500 for used front diff and they cover labor. He would spend money and they would make profit on $50 of parts (seal plus bearing if they would have even replaced that)

In the a meantime what they got is one mean ogre willing to fight back..

Somebody has to fight back against stealership this time it happened to be me.

I understand there is a big concern with diesel fumes on top of the emissions. Almost half of commercial truck drivers end up with some form of cancer and the incidence/prevalence of lung cancer in the truck driving population is a lot higher than the standard population (even accounting for smoking).

I would say though, if someone wants to attack emissions problems, they need to look at our farming structure. Start with the major contributors to our problem and worry about the smaller components later.

PM me if you want to learn about the farming side. In regards to global warming from methane... you have somewhat of a point. However, on a fuel consumed per acre as well as emissions stand point there is way too much BS information out there that simply isn't factual.
