Well, here we are again. I just finished a damn rear bumper build and I'm starting another one. With the addition of a shiny new flatbed to my truck, my "old" rear bumper had to find a new home...which it did. It will be getting modified heavily to fit on a bobbed bed Taco. I can't wait to see pics!

I will be building something very simple and utilitarian. I'm digging the look and the fab should be pretty mellow. I already have files out for cut/bend. Two week lead time right now so this bumper may take a whole month to finish. Haha, still BLAZING fast for one of my builds.

Anyway, here's all I have to show right now.
    Capture6.jpg
The silver/gray part at the top is a quick and dirty representation of my flatbed. The red ovals are the lights I'll be using though they look much bigger than they are because I only modeled the full outside dimensions. A good chunk of that is actually trim ring with the lense being a bit smaller. There is also a license plate with light, OEM backup camera, TRD OR 110v outlet, trailer wiring plug, FJ Cruiser hitch receiver, and two Teraflex Jeep JK shackle mounts. I also have some cool stuff happening with storage behind the rear wheels. It will tie into the bumper at a later date. I can't design it properly without my bumper being in place. Stay tuned!

You building a camper to go on the flatbed? Or are you going with a FWC?

Building my own. I started building one for the factory bed but didn't like where it was going so I redesigned and am heading in a new and cooler direction.

Here's a link to my epic fail/soon to be amazing camper build thread...in case you haven't seen that dumpster fire: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1-bored-clerks-garage-built-camper.457359/

Bought some supplies to get me started while waiting for my laser cut/bent parts. Plus some extra stuff for a house project.

Just got word from my laser/bending guy; parts should be available first of next week! I may have time this weekend to get a little prep work done. I've been hammering away on a few lingerning home projects during the downtime.

I'm hard to keep up with. Always brewing something. Usually to my own detriment. :D

    Finally getting my build started!

    IMG_5116.jpg
    Laying out the pieces.

    IMG_5118.jpg
Teraflex bow shackle mounts. These are hefty. I wish they didn't stick out quite so far but it'll look right on the truck. Big stuff ends up looking small when you fit it to the rig.

    IMG_5120.jpg
FJ Cruiser hitch receiver. Saves me a ton of fab and is already rated for towing! Safety first? Also, I always thought they looked kind of cool. Definitely will fit the look of my bumper.

    IMG_5122.jpg
Finding center and locking it in place. Ready to drill. Since I'm sleeving these holes with .75" x .120 wall tubing, I need to be very accurate with these holes. The bolts will have just enough clearance through the sleeves. I'm going to make up a few drill bushings to make sure I'm centered in these holes. Not sure yet how I'll transfer the holes to the back side. I could just drill all the way through but I don't want the bit to walk. Might be safer to repeat this process on the backside.

More to come this week. My steel guy missed two deadlines which is very odd for him. He's wicked busy. Anyway, I can pick up my bent parts tomorrow. I finally found a place where I can get the taillights I want. Those will take ten-ish days to get here, though. That'll slow me down a little.

Don't give up on that camper thread! I'll be starting the floor of the new one next week. I'll continue it in the same thread.

Decided to bust out a few more things. Cut the sleeves for the hitch bolt holes and threw some temp fasteners in there. Then I figured I might as well mock some stuff up for giggles.

I'm digging the change in planes and depth. When it's all black, you may not notice but I'll know it's there! One thing I forgot that I still need to add is an air line hookup. I may also see about a shore power plug...
