Yeah, that idea was rubbish. I made it a whole day before completely changing my approach. It’ll be more work but it should actually work so there’s that. I’ll post up progress as it happens. My files are out for cut/bend now. Work will probably start some nice dry weekend day no sooner than 1.5 weeks away.

FINALLY upgraded my bumper so it's ready to really tow.

The old bumper mounts were weaksauce and I knew it. Time for an upgrade!

Pull off the old mounts. Look at that frame! No rust at all. I swear by Fluid Film. I spray it on the frame and frame plates before I bolt stuff together.

Test fit the new mounts (same as the old ones) and the new crossmember. Clamp in place and remove.

Then weld every seam you can get the gun on!

Clamp the original bumper onto the new bumper subframe and drill all 12 through bolt holes.

Clean it all up and send it off for powdercoat

Do a shit edit of the license plate (not that it matters...I'm sure it's shown in my threads about a dozen times). Then bolt everything back in place with new hardware. I liked the blackout look with the black hardware but it was just too rusty so I went with plated fasteners. Hit them with a little fluid film as well. I'll try to keep up on that.

Buy a 5x8 trailer to haul dirt bikes, do dump runs, home improvement stuff and all that. And tow it like a champ!

There is ONE thing left for this bumper that I want to get to: flip up license plate. Currently, I have to unbolt the license plate if I want to drop the spare. Not a big deal but not ideal either.
