I'm in the same boat as you. I'm trying to decide if I should just get the normal 6112 and swap to a stiffer spring if I feel I need to. Or wait and see what the new shocks for the 3rd gen are like. If they are basically the same with a little stiffer spring they should work well on a 2nd gen with extra weight.

So the one issue I have with swapping to a stiffer spring is that the 6112's are valved to the spring that they come with. So if the new heavier spring you swap in has a different compression characteristic, then the valving wont match up, and you might be left with a less then buttery ride everyone touts about. I may be over thinking it, but have yet to see anyone with first hand experience.

It would be nice if Bilstein had a spring option like OME, but...

The bumper is around an extra 100lbs I think and I'll be throwing on an aluminum skid so 120-130lbs total. On stock suspension I'm sitting at 19.5" on both sides hub to fender, so it's sagging about a half inch I think. Initially I want to bring the front to 21/21.5" (3rd notch?) to level it with the rear which has airbags right now and sits around 22/22.5". Then bump it up down the road when I lift the rear with Dakars.

Hey guys I have been reading about dropping the LCA to get the coil over in and out. I see tons of videos out there with people hanging on huge pry bars and using bottle jacks in the frame to get their new shocks in. Why aren't they just disconnecting the sway bar links? When you pry that arm down aren't you actually trying to pry the anti sway bar down? Just seems like you are either doing damage or working way too hard...

You will not be disappointed with the bilstein kit. Everyone with kings says it sucks but I have buddies with kings/ icons and my biksteins are much smoother on/off road

When I swapped out my third gen stock coilovers that's what I did- remove the sway bar. It was a lot easier. It takes two hands to reinstall but soooo much easier.

Ditto...removed skid plate and sway bar. It was easier that way.

Anybody have the 6112's on a 2wd double-cab? I've seen the Bilstein chart, but trying to find someone here with real-world experience. Mostly curious as to how much gain i'll "actually" get using the 2nd notch. Just leveling the front...or as close to possible.

Are those rub marks on your coil springs from sway bar or something else ?

@smitty99 did you notice if your springs are close to your sway bar ?

I am new to posting on the forum but I think I have spent about 60 hours on here reading everything there is possibly to know about suspension lifts. After the help this forum has provided I will now definitely be doing the work my self!!! I purchased a 2017 Off Road DCLB 4x4 about 8 months ago and want to add the 6112/5160's. I'm planning on keeping the stock tires and wheels until the time comes when I need new tires, then I will upgrade to 17 in wheels and KO2's. After doing a ton of research I found the cheapest place to buy the kit is from bilsteinlifts.com I am about to pull the trigger and can get it right now for $970 with free shipping and no tax. I am planning to put the 6112's on the 5th notch with the 1/4" spacer but also wanted to add the Headstrong 3leaf AALs to the rear. From what I understand this can't be done because the 5160's can only accommodate a 1" rear lift and the AALs are a 1.5"-2" lift. Does anyone have any recommendations to this newbie on what I can do to lift the rear without adding blocks? Thank you all for your posts, they have been very helpful to me!!

First off why are you using a spacer with the 6112s? The third gen 6112s have specific instructions for offsetting the taco lean. I think you need to keep researching. See my thread on it in signature below, complete with part numbers and links to many of the things you will need. 5160s work fine with the 3 leaf AAL.

Yeah, what Smitty said... You only need the spacer for the 2nd gen 6112's. The new 3rd gen 6112's come staggered; i.e. they accommodate for driver's side lean. Also, I'm running 5160's just fine with a Headstrong progressive 3 leaf (overload removed).

Wow, that is a great write up, very informative thanks! I knew you can offset the the third gen 6112's to adjust for the lean but I saw Headstrong sells the 6112/5160 and includes a spacer with the kit. They are spoken very highly of on this forum so I was planning on getting the setup they sell, just a little cheaper from another vendor. Sounds like I am better off setting the driver's side on #6 and passenger on #5. Thanks for the insight!

Bilstein designed the new assemblies with an adjustment increment that will allow the offset. I wouldn't use the spacer simply because it's an added component that is unnecessary. Just another thing that could potentially break (though unlikely)...run them the way they were designed is my suggestion.
