No freakin way would I let some dealer hired nobody drive my brand new $45,000 Manual Trans truck 1400 miles... That is just asking for a burnt clutch, I have seen how dealership people drive vehicles... When mine gets delivered I have requested that it not be driven more than just off the truck to a parking spot where I will pick it up. I expect to have no more than 2-4 miles on it TOPS when I take delivery. I had a dealer offer to let me test drive someone's Pro that they had ordered before they came and picked it up... If I was that guy I would be PISSED!
I would shell out the extra $400 +/- to have it delivered by truck to my door... Or better still, take a quick :plane: and go get it myself... Maybe hit a few trails on the way home... :mudding:

I'd rather pay a company to put it on a truck than have someone drive it.

Planned on having it shipped. Made arrangements also but then the driver didn’t want to go to far. They said they would take care of it.so this is where we’re at rite now.

Congrats OP on your new Truck!! Long story short, but I had to pull my truck into a garage and back out because the tech could not drive the manual. The tech was in his 40's...

Congrats! If at all possible, avoid them driving it 1400 miles. I believe in the right break-in procedure, which is not having highway for 1400 miles, need to vary it up.

Wow. They shouldn't drive it 700 miles...that should be trailer-ed. Hope you got a deal for a 700mi used truck... :)

Agree 100%. The dealer should put that thing on a flat bed or you should walk. You're buying a used truck at this point.

The % of auto to manual sales is part of the answer. Manuals are going the way of the dodo.

For those who do have that skill, most didn't hire on to be long distance drivers. 700 miles is a good day's drive, overnight, and somehow return.

    Tell them to ship it.

You really want 700 miles of steady state open road driving to be your break in method? What if the driver hits a truck stop and finds a lounge lizard that smokes? Spills his big Mac and fries on your gussied up new seats?

If you insist on it being driven, go get it yourself.

I would look for another shipping company that will cross the border.

If you do end up having a stranger drive it, I would not sign paperwork and take ownership until it is detailed and you are permitted to drive it for an extended test drive. And lastly, make sure all your inspections are during the day. Darkness hides a lot.

Good luck. Praying for a good outcome for you.

By that I take you to mean that they are getting quite difficult to find, and most people don't realize how tasty they are?

Because a requirement for maybe 1% of the cars they sell doesn't make much sense.

    Congrats!
At an older job we would fuss at the management for not asking them during the interview. Nothing like teaching a newbie how to drive a stick in someone else’s vehicle while in line with other vehicles..
But I have only ridden in a three on the tree, never driven one, so I may have a learning curve there..lol

enjoy it, you may have to spend some time tweaking things like most around here but it can be pretty awesome when it's setup for you.

doesn't seem like it matters so much to you, but if i were wanting to keep it a long time i definitely would be the ONLY one putting the first 1000 miles on it. hope it works out either way.
