I've been prepping for Cruise Moab next week and I've wanted to improve some of my storage solutions.

I have had this army surplus medical supply box for several years now it it works fine in my Land Cruiser and in the trailer as well as in the bed of the truck, but it is large enought that when it is loaded it is VERY heavy and hard to move around if I needed to. That led me to look at a similar approach with smaller boxes.

Here's a few pics of the boxes I finished up today. The two together are comperable in size to the larger medical supply box but if I need to move them, they are much lighter and easier to move than that bigger box. I bolted some tie-down loops to the sides so I could secure them to the rack with turn buckles, but still be able to open the lid and access what I needed without having to undo a bunch of ratchet straps first to get the lids off.

This is a much better setup, because even though it does block some visibility, I still have a mostly unobstructed view out the back using the rear view mirror.

That is awesome. I wish I had the resources you have to make my truck like yours. Incredible job.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm not sure what you mean about resources. I'm not doing anything ground breaking. It just takes a little creativity and purpose. And a little more of the same when you're short on cash (which is most of the time for me).

Resources as in materials and knowledge and experience with what works and what doesn't make the cut. The whole truck is just so well put together and built for a specific purpose and all the little details and miscellaneous parts make up an incredible truck.

what did you use for your rear bumper? 4x6 channel with the prebent 90's to wrap around the sides?

It's a 5x3 channel. And the tubes are cut from an old roll cage.

hey box, unfortunately my truck wont be gold after im done due to my body swap but i figured id give you my input on an idea that i would have strongly considered doing myself, but i picked up some army canvas tarps from the local surplus store just cause i hate vinyl tarps and i draped it over my truck and the OD green on gold looked awesome.
i thought about the applications i could do with the canvas after i was done using it as a shade tent and i think it would look real good as a ragtop kinda camper shell so you could easily remove it and keep whatever you have in your bed from exposure to the elements and it wouldnt be hard at all to whip up a little frame for it and lace it up with 550 paracord.

just an idea i can take a pic of the od green on gold if you want to see it

Just got back from Cruise Moab. I took very few pics, and have zero pics of my truck. A buddy might have a little video taken with his GoPro. I'll see if I can get that.

CM2011 was awesome! Ran Moab Rim yesterday with a green 1st gen Extracab and a silver 2ndGen DC from Washington. Don't know if either of them are on here or not.

So I used a full tank of gas on the way home from Cruise Moab. Truck was loaded with bedrack, rack boxes full of parts/tools/fluids, CO2 tank, ARB fridge. I got 17.8 mpg. All in all not bad with stock gearing and 33's.

This is probably my favorite build so far! Everything looks great and I really like the snorkel... I wish I had the nuts to put one on lol

Anyone wanna buy my truck? There is a chance I may be moving in the next few months and the truck may have to go. I'm not 100% on selling it, but I'll entertain offers.

Honestly, I'm trying to keep it, it just depends on how things work out.

It currently has 106K miles. All maintenance is current, with no issues.
