picked up my Maxtrax yesterday from the group buy through Cruiser Outfitters. I won't talk about the Maxtrax specifically but I'm sold on them after several trips this past year. Huge thanks to Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters for doing the group buy.

I cut the hilift mounts off my bedrack and welded on 4 new mounting "pegs" to the passenger side of the bedrack. Used some rubber blocks underneath the maxtrax and at the clips to keep them snug and rattle free, and the clips allow for easy access. I'm using a cable lock around the bedrack to keep them from walking off with a stranger.

Secured with a rubber grommet and pin. (one of these at each corner).

Another small update.....I broke one of the rockers on my switch panel so I replaced them all with the other style that OTRATTW offers. I like these switches much better. Cleaner look.

Lastly. just want to mention the VHT wheel paint I used on my 80 series wheels. In the past I've painted several sets of wheels. I've used Duplicolor Wheel paint, Rustoleum, PlastiDip, and this VHT paint that you can find at Autozone. Coming from Autozone I didn't expect great durability from the VHT paint but I am seriously impressed with it. It is MUCH better than the Duplicolor wheel paint, and the Rustoleum too. Don't even get me started on the PlastiDip. For a truck that gets wheeled, plastidip SUCKS! This VHT paint is the best wheel paint I've used and they have a decent selection of colors. I've liked it so much on my 80 series wheels that I'm probably going to ditch my 15" wheels and get a new set of tires for these wheels and keep them full time on the Tacoma as soon as it's time to replace the tires.

not a bad idea...those maxtrax mounts can be a bitch to open up...especially when it's cold out! not to mention the maxtrax deform a bit when they are cold..

Yeah these pins have plenty of room in the holes to allow for any of that. Should work out great.

Are those the "laser etched" ones they have listed on their site? I was just looking at switches because I bought a switch panel face.

And thanks for the heads up on the VHT. It was between that and the Duplicolor for when I paint my wheels.

How do you like the bedrack raised a bit? With it that high are you able to open the fridge up without sliding it out? Looks great Adam

No the fridge doesn't open unless I slide it out. That's the compromise for keeping the rack low enough to have the RTT close to level with the roofline, but still high enough to fit the fridge.

I have the same problem. Well worth it compared to the skyscraper setup I had with the topper and RTT.

One other question. Do you know anyone that has tried TRED traction device? If so what's your opinion?

I would not get the TREDs. There is a dude here locally that has some but I haven't talked to him. But having looked at them side by side with Maxtrax, they are not as nice of quality and feel more flimsy, and I don't understand why they are only ramped at one end. Purely stupid design if you ask me. Seeing firsthand how effective the Maxtrax were on our trip last summer sold me on them over any of the other options. If you don't want Maxtrax, the TREDs are probably the next best option. Whatever you do don't waste your money on Smittybuilt ones.
