Hey Adam, re-doing the rear suspension next month. In the process was going strip and paint the axle and the OME leafs. Probably going to pull everything except the 3rd. I recall you've painted yours. Any tips or gotchyas off the top of your head?

This! I keep anxiously checking this thread to see, but am always disappointed as its always just some ones asking questions… not to discourage questions or anything just…………

Adam, did you run into any problems with your OME shocks in the rear with your lift shackles? I'm going to install longer shackles this weekend but didn't even think about maxing out my nitrochargers with the extra height...:anonymous:

With my OME shocks, Dakars w/ AAL and All Pro shackles I am maxed out in the stock shock location with an empty bed, I have to put a decent amount of weight in there to get them from being maxed out. Next week I'm getting a cross member welded in to change mounting location for shocks though.

Same ones for awhile, I am basically copying what Adam did with my rear suspension. I got tired of trying stuff and it not working or wearing out too quick.

Ok thanks. I have a shell on all the time with gear in the back. So a couple hundred pounds full time. And I have a RTT coming soon as well so I may be ok for a while.

So it seems like a good time for some short term feedback on the Safari LTD steering rack that I installed a couple months ago. Obviously it's had a decent amount of road miles in the last couple months and now has had some good testing offroad.

After several days offroad last week and actually pushing the steering pretty hard through lots of high-speed dirt tracks and some solid time in the rocks I was very curious to see how the steering felt afterward. It is still very tight with good return to center feel. There is no play or movement in the rack. It kept the alignment in spec although I am having another alignment done tomorrow to fix my caster that the knuckleheads set to 0* last time, but that didn't have anything to do with the rack.

So overall I'm really happy with the quality of the Safari steering rack and expect that I'll get many years of use out of it. It was a worthwhile upgrade IMO.
