    Adam,

Do you ever have issues with safety inspections on your trucks?

I had some lady at firestone the other day tell me I should pay more attention to laws before building my toys. She went into mudflaps, sway, bar, wheel spacers, and aux lighting and threw a tantrum. I don't run wheel spacers right now but new you did. I know that mudflaps are a big deal but it seems like plenty of people have setups worse than mine and get away with it fine. The swaybar I can see as being a hazard if it is off, but the auzilary lighting is only for offroad so no sure why she is upset about that.

So you swap parts on and off before inspections or just have a shop that isn't so anal about things?

Yeah, not sure what this lady's deal was. I was just getting an alignment but she made certain that if I came there for safety she would reject it. I didn't need safety last summer but this year will need it.

Sounds like you caught her on a bad day or she is someone that likes feeling like she's got power and enjoys being a jerk. I know there are laws and regulations and I'm not suggesting anyone should break those.

These are just related to Utah, but.....
Mudflaps. Yep you have to have them. I've been rejected before, and I actually run mudflaps *most* of the time but often do not. I do always put them on for the inspection.

Swaybars. Honestly, I've never even thought about it since I took it off and I've never been questioned.

Wheel Spacers. Technically there are two different things. Wheel spacers, and wheel adapters. If you have wheel spacers that are just a spacer and don't actually bolt on, you're gonna get rejected on those and I wouldn't recommend anyone run those anyway. I don't know 100% but the bolt-on type (which most of us use) are technically called wheel adapters and I don't believe those are illegal. The guys at the tire place were talking to me about it and they have no problem with them. They won't touch a vehicle that has the non-bolt-on spacers but they're fine with the bolt-on ones and will actually retorque them for me.

Aux lighting. Totally legal you just can have them on while driving on the street unless they are actual DOT approved. But there is no law that says you can't have them on the vehicle.

Lift height is another one that will sometimes come up. In Utah the vehicles are measured from the ground to the lowest part of the frame. It differs depending on the GVWR of the vehicle but I've had cops pull me over to tell me that my trucks were lifted too high. I have carried a copy of the lift law in the truck for years. I'll show them the law and they'll measure and I've always been legal. It's not a bad idea to carry a copy of the relevant laws with you so when you encounter somebody like that lady you can show the ACTUAL law and that you are within the legal rights.

But the short answer is NO I've never really had an issue passing the safety inspection. Go somewhere else to get inspected. Its not worth dealing with idiots on a power trip.

I usually have them tapped into the reverse lights and on a switch so that it can be used as a camp light to light up behind the truck. I try to make them able to swivel so they can be aimed where I need them.

All that is essentially what I thought. Definitely won't be going there come summer.

Good as far as I know. Haven't heard updates from the laser cutter on your parts but another order I had in before will be done on Monday so they should be pretty on track.

    ...too much shit to list.
You've got a tunable shock, so just revalve it for your needs. There's absolutely no sense in buying a new coilover because you don't like the "ride" when you have a tunable shock.
What spring rate and what valving do you have right now? Are any of the 3 freebleeds in the piston plugged or are they all open?

Its how it comes from king if you don't order it a special way. Maybe I just need it valved a bit softer. Sorry about the lack of information on my part, and thanks for the reply

Pretty much impossible to offer suggestions then.

You can figure out spring rate by looking for white numbers/letters on the spring itself. It will have something to the effect of 300-14-600. The first three numbers stand for the spring inside diameter (will be 300 or 3.00" which are used on 2.5" shock bodies). The second number stands for the spring length (14" in this case). The third number stands for spring rate (600 lbs in this case).

Valving can only be determined by opening up the shock and mic the valve shims.

You're better off just taking the shocks somewhere and just getting them revalved (and/or a lighter spring rate) to suite your truck and ride preferences.

Sconce93, you've been given some good advice on your Kings. But to answer your question about my setup. For what I do, I like the OME suspension a lot.
