finished up the transmission skid last night. My guess is that it won't take too many hits so it's attached to the IFS skid with a single bolt for now. I'll add more front attachment later if needed.

At the back I welded a heavy angle bracket to the factory crossmember that the skid bolts to. The belly skid will attach the same way to the back of the crossmember so nothing will be lower than the factory crossmember. Used a couple carriage bolts so they'll slide over the rocks better than regular bolts.

Here's the bracket welded to the crossmember

from this side you can see how the side is clearanced for the driveshaft.

On the passenger side you can see how the side is notched for the trans fill tube.

I got started building the belly skid last night. I'm using one of the super beefy brackets from Ruffstuff for the rear belly skid crossmember. A pair of these will be welded to the frame behind the tcase. Another heavy angle bracket will be welded to the back side of the factory crossmember for the front attachment of the belly skid. Nothing will cover the holes in the factory crossmember so that I can get to the tranny mount bolts easily if I need to.

Dude, your build is badass. I really like that bed rack. Have you ever thought of mounting your spare tire on it? Or even under it? I always liked the looks of the 1st Gen double cabs.

Its been some time since I been up skyline, your pictures bring back the memories... I need to get up there one of these days.

.:Edit:. I havent read through all your pages yet since im at work, but seems you have a shell now instead of the bed rack

I switch between the shell and the bedrack pretty often. Bedrack is on the truck until after Moab in a few weeks.

Hey box, I want to do a 3'' OME lift (coilover up front and rear shocks) and the dakar pack. Considering I tow a utv I may need the AAL you recommend to better handle loads. Would adding both of these to the rear produce rake or you think it would be fairly level? I do have a shell. Sorry for the ?'s but I dunno if a 4 pack or 5 pack would be the best and what inch AAL would be right. Thanks, btw excellent job on your truck!

If you are going with the Dakar leaves i would definitely get the AAL. If you have a shell and are hauling a utv the Dakars on their own won't be enough. There is only one AAL available from OME and it is the D6XL. I think you'll be really happy with it.

Ok cool. After hearing about those dakars I wonder if I should just keep the stock leaf pack and do an AAL instead. Do you think stock pack with AAL and new shackles would be better or AAL and new dakars? Im fine with some squat when Im hauling, I really just want more capability when im off roading. Thanks again!

The Dakars and AAL will be MUCH better than stock leaves and AAL for hauling and especially off road.

    Adam-

What sticker do you have on your wheels? And how well has it been holding up?

(random question I know, but I love that little detail)
