Like I said, I'm not looking to sell it. The offer just got me thinking. There are pros and cons to the Cruiser vs the Tacoma. Just thinking through those things to see what makes sense to me.

That would be hard to turn down. Personally I wouldn't because of my attachment to my truck. On the other hand it's a good chunk of Keesh...
Like you said, weigh the pros n cons

I say keep it if your able or if it makes sense to.

I'm not selling it right now. $18K isn't quite enough motivation for me to sell it. It would have made some other things possible and moving back to my Land Cruiser isn't exactly a bad thing, but the numbers just don't make sense.

Yep. My 80 series has probably been the best truck I've ever owned.

I like quite a few of the AOE products. That bumper should be a nice addition to your pink panties truck.

You've gotta go into it with your eyes open. There are a few things about an 80 series that some people don't like. They are slow. The 1FZ is a great motor and vastly better than the 3FE in the '91-'92 Cruisers but it is still slightly underpowered IMO. A super-charged 1FZ is much better and how Toyota should have offered them from the factory. But truthfully that is the only real drawback to an 80 series that I can think of. Also, you have to plan on a slightly higher level of maintenance since the very newest 80 Series is 17 years old now. Fortunately there are quite a few out there that have been maintained and modified and have addressed most of the typical wear items that you'd worry about with older vehicles. But there will still be some things to watch for.

My 80 has been awesome and in 13 years of owning it it has never broken or left me stranded even with TONS of hard offroad miles. The only work I've had to do to it is normal wear items like hoses, belts and axle seals.

I'm chasing an electrical issue with it right now. There are some wires that cross above the bellhousing and the heat etc can cause the wire insulation to go brittle overtime and expose the wires and short out. I'm not 100% sure that's my issue but pretty sure it is. So mine isn't running at the moment until I sort that out. But I just posted it for sale last week. I'm just not using it much these days and I'm shopping for a couple 1st gen Pickups for my two boys so I'm looking to sell the 80 to fund the pickups.

If your sell your cruiser, does that mean you might switch the 35s over?

Probably not. Depends on how the sale of the Cruiser goes. Most of the value of it is in the tires and bumpers so I'll probably leave those on it. I'm not in a hurry to sell but if I ever get to that point and decide to part it out, then I'd possibly hang onto the 35's and just sell the bumpers.

1st gen pickups! Nice are you going to build them up like your old 85? Not sure if I'm right in the year.

My '85 was a 2nd Gen pickup. I suppose that's an option too but there are less rust issues with the 1st and 3rd gens. The rust was the reason I built the flatbed on my '85. The bed was complete garbage.

But yes they'll be somewhat built. The goal is for them to have trucks they can drive to the places we like going. Then I have a built in wheeling group and won't have to worry as much about coordinating schedules with buddies anytime I want to go wheeling. :)

That's kinda why I want to build my wife the Jeep we have. Built right so we won't be stuck in the middle of nowhere.

No doubt they are slow haha. The best thing I've found when searching for one is actually gettin the Lexus version. Lexus just doesn't seem like an offroad vehicle to people so they don't get dogged out by teen drivers. Although I had a Lexus with front and rear lockers when I was 17. And don't forget that pesky valve cover gasket haha
