I have a brake light dash indicator on my 2003 Tacoma that stays lit after I release it. I've had the truck in to the shop where they said the brakes were fine. I filled the brake fluid as it was down a bit, but that didn't fix the problem. I crawled under the dash and noticed that the handbrake release contacts (or should contact) a button that turns out the light. The brake release does not stay in contact with the button. I can push it with my hand and it'll go out. I can jiggle and twist the release and after a while it'll stay in contact. Is there a spring in the release that keeps pressure on it so it stays in contact with the button? If not, what is the solution to keep the release pressed against the button?

Solution is to disconnect the light. No light no fuss.

There is a spring back at the intermediate lever where the adjustment is.

It helps to lube this spring once in awhile .

That spring keeps tension on the cable keeping it tight

I forget and the light stays on
