The trailer has brakes but the 2006 Tacoma is not TRD. Just 2WD. From what I understand I don't have anywhere to plug a brake module into to run it to the 7 pin (blue).

What are my DIY options to be able to add the trailer brakes? Or am I just missing something?

I also know I'm missing other things the tow package includes like oil/tranny cooler. Been towing w/o for years but this trailer is a bit bigger than past ones so considering the tranny cooler.

203K miles on my Taco. Had it since 54K. Runs like a Tacoma.

Does your truck have a 7-pin connector in the back?
Or are you saying the trailer is 7-pin and the truck has no connector?
    Not even a 4 pin?

Originally it did not even have 4-pin. There's no tow package. Everything has been added by me. I put on the Class 3 hitch and wired in for 4/5 pin (trailer/camper). When I got this trailer I bought the 7pin for the truck (trailer has it) and just wired on the green/yellow/brown/white. And then I rigged up a bad idea for red ;).

You'll have to wire in a brake controller. (Like the one linked)
You'll need to tap in to a brake light wire (in cab) then run the wire from the controller to the 7-pin.

Everything you should need to add the tow package equivalent parts is in this thread. It even covers the wiring you are going to need to do with part numbers, though my truck came with the factory tow package so I haven't personally validated this
