brake overide malfunction?

is anyone else experiencing this problem? i have a 2017 tacoma 4x4 sport, i cant really accelerate, it feels like it lost all power to run smooth!!!

 

I wouldn’t keep driving it. Take to the dealer

The circuitry of the Tacoma is retarded. If a brake light bulb fails/shorts it can trip the brake override malfunction. I have seen this happen with 100% stock trucks, as well as aftermarket Tail LED bulbs and complete tail lights.

 

I heard about this. Pretty sad they make the whole truck go into limp mode because of a light out.

Doesn’t this happen when you press the brake and gas at the same time?

 

Hey this happened to me. Your truck is in limp mode. Call toyotqcare if you're in warranty and have it towed to a dealer.... In my case they kept it for a day and gave me a rental. Diagnosis was throttle plate got out of position during done heavy offroading and threw a fault. No physical damage was found.

 

Any idea on "code" setting criteria? What causes this? Are they dual filament?

Ahh. Well if you have access to a OBD-II tool, pull codes. It can be very informative.

 

try clearing the code and see if it comes back on, can't hurt

 

so have you chk'd if a taillight bulb is out?

 

Look at your fuses, I blew my tail fuse when replacing my tail lights!!

 

Just got this malfunction yesterday did some digging. Until I can get it to the dealer there is a small square with a slit right in front of the shifter pop it out an press down on the button and you can shift and drive it until you can get it to the shop its a manual override for this dumbass alarm. On mine whenever I park it goes back to being stuck so I'm driving around with a small screwdriver to push the button evertime I do from park to drive. Just a small work around until you can get to the shop hope it helps yal.

 

Coincidentally, two of my brake lights went down at same time. Replaced both without any issues and good for now… my truck did not go on limp mode because of this..

 

Brake Override Malfunction. If you own a third gen taco you should know how to fix as what happened to me. As I was removing camper shell third brake light shorted out and yes transmission locked up.Replaced fuse marked brake and unlocked tranny. But when i was wheelin in the sierras light came back on but tranny didnt lock up.The left brake light bulb was arcing once I replaced bulb fixed problem.I wish the warning light would say replace fuse.
