    Hello.
This is my first post here. I wanted to share my current situation with everyone just in case someone is looking for a familiar voice. I purchased a 2016 Limited Tacoma on June 22, 2016. At this moment it is sitting in the dealership service center since yesterday morning. My problem at the moment is that my brakes failed on 6+ occasions since I took possession of it and I only have 600 miles on it. Before you wonder how I let it happen 6 times, let me explain.
The first 3 times I noticed the issue I thought I was losing my mind. I really thought... did I just do something??? You see, who thinks a brand new truck will have brake failure. Each time this brake issue happened I was doing 40+ mph. I would come upon a red light or traffic that was backed up and when I stepped on the brake the first time nothing happened. By that time my heart was in my throat and my jaw in my lap. My instinct was to release the pedal and retry. On the second press of the pedal the pressure built up again and the vehicle came to a stop. I second guessed myself and thought, if this happens one more time then it's definitely not my fault. So this past Saturday night I was doing about 40mph and when I went to brake behind another car the same thing happened again. I say, F this! I got it home safely although each of these instances almost caused an accident. I got the truck to the dealership on Monday morning and there it sits. I opened a case with Toyota directly and reported the issue to the NHTSA. The service advisor called me with an update to tell me they have been looking at it all day and of course can find nothing out of the ordinary. I am unsure of what is going to happen but if they attempt to return it to me in the same working order that I left it, I will refuse to leave in it. I also already had the plugs put in the lower control arm as noted in the service bulletin because of the whistling noise. My prediction is that they will end up taking this truck back. I am lucky as I paid close to invoice for it. I'm hoping this helps if in fact I do have to sell it back to them. I am so disappointed because this was the truck I wanted for so long. Now I have a Prius loaner in my driveway. LOL

The new Prius is supposed to be pretty nice. What are your impressions?

Welcome to TW. I feel your disappointment as this is my first truck and first new vehicle that I wanted too. Nobody wants issues on a brand new truck, hopefully they will either fix it quickly or even buying it back.

Sounds like for some reason ABS may be activating and bypassing pressure. Or there is a issue within the master cylinder.

I made a huge deal to Toyota and the dealer about the safety of the vehicle. There isn't a gray shaded area with brakes. Either they work or they don't. They reassured me I wouldn't drive off in it if I didn't feel safe. I am now realizing that "safety" is the red flag word to use.

As it should be. If they blow you off, you drive away and die in the truck, they'll lose their asses.

Sorry to hear about your experience, this is a very serious concern that I think the dealer and Toyota will take seriously. I talked to a service advisor at Toyota recently and it sounds like they are having a lot of issues with these trucks. I would keep pushing the safety concerns till something is done. Good luck.

Like the OP got one of the new fugly Prius loaners?

Hope they get things sorted out, but remember to remind them if they can find the issue and you are in an accident who could be liable.

I actually think she's going to be a good fit around here! Soon as those brakes are fixed.

Lemon law is 30 DAYS in the shop for the same issue in the first year of ownership. Doesn't have to be 30 days in a row just a total of 30 days. Keep track and let Toyota know you're watching the calendar.

Considering this isn't the only report, it should really wake someone up. I hope they correctly identify the root cause.

The dealership still has my truck. They compared the computer system to another new truck and still couldn't find anything. A regional engineer from Toyota directly is scheduled to look at it. Apparently he's the guy right before they approve a replacement so maybe it's a good sign. Toyota has actually been pretty good but it will be the end result that will make my mind up on them.
