"brass and metal" in the oil in a visible amount is a sign of imminent failure.

It don't sound bad when it is running or driving down the road and has good power

I'm far from a expert but it seems to me the only place you'd find brass is in the bushings of a elec starter.

Most internal bearings like Rod/crankshaft/cam have a softer under layment of brass or copper IIRC... At least thats what I used to see when breaking down a smoked engine...

    1) get a used oil analysis immediately to determine the actual metals

sometimes they can zero in on the actual part (engines have specific metals at specific
hardness at specific locations, UOA can tell you exactly what part)

    2) do not drive, or risk severe engine damage

    3) if under warranty, bring it in asap

tiny metal flakes are OK if the vehicle is brand new, but a 2010 should have zero
visible metal anything in the oil
