I've seen mention of bjj in the ufc/mma thread but thought we could have a dedicated thread. I say we introduce ourselves, maybe belt, how long you've trained, where you train (hopefully no rival gym drama). Also link questions or technique video?

I'll start. I'm a purple belt, been training 5 yr consistently, off and on for bit before that. I train at alliance in Atlanta.

Here's a link to the pass series I've been working on lately.

Trained for about a year and made it to white belt with two stripes under Andrew Eidson. Unfortunately money and lower back issues prevented me from continuing.

My cousin's son is a world champion and he manhandled me when he was still a minor lol.

I can understand that. Money can definitely add up with membership fees, gis, rash guards, etc. I've been lucky with my back but knee surgery, torn pec, broken/strained joints have definitely caused me some down time. First some reason I'm a glutton for punishment and keep going back.

4 Stripe White. Training for 1.5 years. Gracie NEPA. Wish I would have found this much younger. A little rough starting at 40 but I'm sticking with it until I physically can't do it anymore.

Keep it up misterkay! I train with a guy in his early 60s that started mid-50s and just got his purple belt. Helio Gracie was still training and teach up til a couple weeks before he died at 95. I'm with you though, wish I'd found it as a kid. I see 10 yr Olds in our kids class that roll as easily as they walk and wish I'd had that.

A mistake not repeated. My 11 year old son is a grey belt. He is also a pretty good wrestler, which comes in handy with BJJ. Helio Gracie was the man. I was reading Saulo Ribeiro's book Jiu Jitsu university and I liked the story about Helio telling Saulo that he was not going to beat him.

Names Matt I've trained with my cousin that owns a dojo in new Jersey. He part of American top team and has 7 pro MMA fighters under him. I stopped training after a serious leg injury. Wish I could still do it. Movement of the leg refuses it.

Hey, I train 7 times a week minimum, a trick I use is that I never think about going to training I just go. Not having enough time is the most common excuse. Make Time.

I train 3 times a week. No Gi once a week and in the Gi two nights a week.
I’d train more if work schedule would permit but 3 days is all I can manage.

Trained for about a year, stopped for about 5yrs. Back for about a year and a half. Blue belt under Nolan Dutcher @ 99/1 BJJ. Stopped again for about 6 months. I've been training on and off for about two years inconsistently since then. Whenever I stop, I miss it and have to go back. The wife says I'm in a much better mood when I train, also. It's just tough to stay consistent having a newborn boy now. I can guarantee that him and I will train together when he's old enough. My gym has an awesome children's program.

i appreciate this comment....this is reality for the vast majority of people....not training 7 times a week. do what you can when you can...its a marathon, not a sprint.

My cousin's son, Michael Liera Jr. just became a first degree black belt today under Andre Galvao. He's been a black belt for almost two years now and is referred to as Professor. He's in his early 20's now and if I remember the ranking system correctly he'll probably be a senior citizen by the time he gets his red belt.
