putting a tortilla in the skillet to cook it - my arm hit the lip on the skillet, it was hotter than i expected . . .
of course my arms are covered in burn scars from cooking so in a few months it'll blend in fine

Made a quick french loaf last night.

One more piece of advice....Don't always give heed to the pretty pictures you see and get discouraged because yours doesn't look as good.

Misshapen and chaotic. Tasted good though.

Recipe used. I halved it and only made one loaf. 405g bread flour.

Did a couple things re: Tortillas

    • Way smaller (this is what I like, street taco size!)
    • Little bit less heat - I was at about 3/4 and now at 1/3 ish
    • Cast iron instead of carbon steel

I don't care about them being circular or not. I might make them a couple more times and have them int he back of my mind for a cool party trick, but, may be controversial to have this opinion here - They weren't worth the effort vs store bought. All the breads I make, pastas - absoLUTELY I get the benefits of the effort. But, for the tortillas, I wasn't "blown away" with them vs store bought, unfortunately.

    Better? Yes.

Better enough to justify the work? In my opinion, no, unfortunately.
That said - from the store bought, you still need to heat them up in the skillet or oven, etc. Free soloing them from the bag is okay but only a little effort and you're at decent enough.

I beg to differ - they are way better than the store ones, way better and I'm not even a tortilla snob @wilcam47
I used to not bother but then a friend of mine made fresh tortillas - I was sold and had him show me how to make them, now there is no going back

I found the effort to make the tortillas easier than making bread and [like with the bread] I slap some parchment between the tortillas and just freeze a bunch. Then I have fresh tortillas whenever - takes me about 3 minutes to thaw/reheat on a skillet.

Doing a friendgiving this weekend and someone is gluten free. So i tried to make a gluten free version of my go to french loaf.

I will be astonished if you can actually guess which is which.

Hmmm I'm going to have to go with on the left being gluten free. The gluten made the other one look all weird I think. :)
