Cleaned my K&N air filter today. It had a little under 50,000 since the last cleaning.
Just a how to for cleaning and maintenance.
If you don't like this type of filter, don't use it. I don't like the restrictive non paper, paper filters, so I don't use them.
The clean side, fresh out of the truck.

    The dirty side.

And in case you missed it, the clean side again. Doesn't look like anything is getting past it to me.

Some light tapping to knock the loose shit out. don't beat on it.

K&N recommends soaking the filter media on both side, using there special cleaning solution. I have found a product called Bike Bright that I use on my motorcycles that is extremely mild and doesn't seem to cause any harm to the filter. If you use this, do so at your own risk, it has worked fine for me. Let it sit, dirty side down while it's soaking. K&N recommends 20 minutes minimum. Mine sat for about an hour.
    Dirty side

    Clean side.

Using light water pressure, no hard streams, just gently flowing water from the garden hose is fine, rinse the filter from the clean side, flushing the crap off the dirty side. Don't rinse from the dirty side as it will push particles further into the media.
    clean, clean side.

    Clean, dirty side.

Let the filter dry. I actually started the process yesterday, finished today.
I just lay it dirty (clean dirty) side down, in the adapter tray, and cover it with a paper tent to keep dust off it.
Run your finger between the pleats to check for moisture. It must be completely dry or the oil won't wick properly. Don't be impatient, it'll just piss you off to have to start over. Voice of experience.;)

After it's dry, dry, dry, coat the dirty side only with K&N oil. Don't use anything else.
There is a liquid squeeze bottle and an aerosol can for this application. I use the can cause I can't find the bottle around here.
Spray the TOP of the pleats only, I spray first from one angle, then spin the filter 180°
and spray from the other angle, always from the dirty side only.
If you spray the clean side, it will definitely cause trouble with your MAF.

This is immediately after coating the dirty side, and it is already wicking through.
as you can see part of the red coming in.

This is after 45 minutes or so of soaking.

That's it. Put it back in for another 50,000 give or take.

Have you pulled the maf sensor to check and see if the k&n has not been as effective as a standard paper filter?

MAF is clean, intake is clean and dust free. I've never had a problem, never had a code. Bought the truck at 110,000 miles and the K&N was the first thing I did to it. Currently over 236,000 miles.
Both my Harley's and the Scout run K&N filters. One of the Harley's is a 2012 with all that fancy sensor bullshit on it. I've had good luck with them.

Added a bunch of stuff. Cut to fit 285 AT3’s
I really like your build. That's a sweet truck, love the thought and work put in.
Also thanks for the info on OME coils. Makes me think about swapping my tundra springs for some 882's.
It's cool to see the season go by and makes me wish (a little) for some snow to go wheeling in the deep white stuff again.

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words.
Part of me wants it to snow, part of me wants it to just snow in the high country and not down here, lol. Soon enough, we'll have all we want.

    Speaking of snow,
Camped in the back of the truck last week hunting for deer and elk (got neither) and woke up to this one morning.
