A little preload for when the weight of the tire is on it. I can push it down to the bumper with about the same amount of effort as a 33" tire...:p

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out! If I ever decide I want a swingout I'll have to use a similar design to what you have going there

    Moving along slowly.
I spent a good part of yesterday trying to find a Toggle Latch locally.
    images_d1949323b99ce9e4812cc2809064bf1a90c467ab.jpg
Not gonna happen, nobody stocks the damn things, and I really wasn't impressed with either the cost or design of what I saw.
    So I made my own.
    The parts.

    This will be the hinge.

The pivot for the clamp portion.
Grade 5 bolt and I just used the center portion. Was a bitch to drill btw.

    Re-shaping of 5/16" u-bolt

    and it works.

This will need addressed, there is significant tension upon release, and the end of the handle smacks the tubing rather hard. It will cause an injury at some point.

Pretty damn stoked with it though. :D

much improvement. I gave it 7/8" gap so as not to pinch my fingers on the flip side and still be able to get a gloved hand under it. I don't have to pre-wince before opening it now

Now to get that tire mounted..

It may be spaced a little far out, but ai allowed room for a different offset rim and a wider tire so hopefully it will fill in nicely.

Just need an angle off to the side for more support, relocate the license plate and paint it.

It's done enough to leave it on now. And I also re-located the license plate to the swing out arm so it can be seen again.

Did you use any bushings or anything for the pivot point or just run the Bolt through the tubing?

There is a 1"OD x3/4" ID steel bushing welded into the end of the tubing. there should be a pic of it somewhere in the beginning.

    Ah, I missed that.

Curious to see how it holds up. My bronze bushings need replacing.
