The only way to prevent rust on a Toyota truck is to park it in a kiddie pool, a foot deep with fluid film.

    Disagree.
Loved both of my 1st Gens. Neither of them had problems, my 01 had 170k on it when I sold it in 2016, still see it driving around everywhere.
Only got 3rd Gen because I wanted a new truck

they are. it was a production change i think in 18. should be on all new trucks. just look at the welds on your frame. should have a tar/wax like coating (i think its the same coating under unibody cars)

I would imagine its the same, they don't go backwards, small improvements / changes along the way.

Don’t have to be old to drive a first gen. Some of us younger guys have an appreciation for transmissions that function properly, rear ends that don’t leak and howl like a back alley hooker and while the engines have slightly less “guts” it’s small consolation that we don’t have to drive a truck that looks like a mongoloid with an underbite for that extra oomph.

No leaks and transmission is flawless, but sure. 1st Gen suits a sensitive bro. Good on ya!

Take it you don’t remember the head gasket recall as well. My 95 had it done as wells as my brothers 2001. Luckily my 1st gen was a Colorado truck and never had any rust. That folding frame idea really would help in tight parking spots in downtown Denver though

This is going to be a Toyota issue until they design a new frame, one that isn't multi layered and welded everywhere. It's a shit design for rust

I plan on keeping my truck a good long time, and glad I bought one of the first 3rd gens.

If all goes well, I will still be here in 20 years taking part.

Hopefully I will not be posting in future gen forums about how superior my old bucket of bolts is, you know, like a douchebag...lol

Yeah my late 2016 built 2017 will be running for a very long time, unless someone totals it. Of course living in Texas helps with any rust concerns.
