    Hi All,
Just came back from my local Toyota dealer, had the 70,000km service.
I went in to check out what was going on and found to my surprise a broken front driver side coil spring. It just happened to be on the outside, otherwise it would not have been seen, lucky I guess.
The mechanic did not find this,I did.
They were surprised at this as it is not very common.
I got a print out from the parts department for $427 Canadian dollars, just for the 1 spring.
2019 on road service date,so no longer covered.
I purchased an extended warranty(not Toyota )I will have to contact them to get a reference number for the warranty claim if it’s even covered…hopefully it will be.
I don’t know how this happened or how long it has been there,I have not hit anything hard and it has not been off road or driven hard, just highway use mostly.
    sh$t happens I guess..

Looks like you also have a leaking shock. I don't see oil-grime build up anywhere but on the coils, so it cant be from the road.

Hi Thanks for the reply, had the truck rust protection sprayed on a little while ago.
Still dripping a bit from that application,up north you have to get something done if you want to lengthen the life of the vehicle a bit.

Hope that is it as I don't see any coating on the exposed metal in the background. I take it the other side coils appear the same?

This seems to be an issue with the pre 2020 TRD Pro shocks with the flat ground coils. Later models have full diameter coils with different perches. Not a super common issue, but I've seen a few posts about it.

Probably cheaper to comb FB Marketplace for used take offs... maybe a blown shock and salvage the coil.

If you can it replaced for free I would do it, otherwise I might ignore it. It’s not cracked in the functional part of the spring.

Check out this thread... 2 options. Post a message asking to purchase someone's take offs... or buy a set of Eibach lifting coils.

I would not ignore this... don't mess around with bad suspension, brakes, or any safety equipment.

I agree - the load of the spring will eventually brake the shock itself since it’s unevenly distributed because of that crack

I would replace other side as well, even if you have to pay for it.

Thanks for the info and advice.
Checked out my extended warranty and it looks like it does not cover spring portion of suspension system.
I have to make a decision now of buying 2 springs online from another dealer at $270.14 dollars each with a 1 year warranty on the part or pay the $378.35 each at my local dealer and get 2 year 40000kms warranty.
More posts than I expected regarding the springs breaking.
I will have to say quite disappointed.

If the $30 take offs from AccuTune in the link I posted will work.
I know what I’d be doing…….brand new take off for $30. Can’t beat that.
