Yesterday I went to get gas and my gas cap fell out when I opened the fuel door. The top of the cap had been sheared off and the fuel pipe that runs to the tank had shifted, or been moved, to the side of the fuel inlet. I had to reach under and remove the inside of the gas cap that was left, and then push and pry extremely hard to get the fuel pipe somewhat aligned so that I could put gas in. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? I'm wondering if this just occured randomly or if someone was trying to steal gas and ended up doing this.

    Thanks

San Diego. That was my first thought too, but since there's no lock on the gas cap I don't know why they wouldn't just siphon it out of the tank through the nozzle.

Sounds like vandalism from a failed theft attempt, or damage from some kind of impact.

On a tacoma? I think all generations have a siphon stopper in the tank.

Yes..its a mesh looking screen thingy..

Maybe whoever didn't realize the mesh was there and they tried forcing something inside to punch through..but who knows for sure
