The other day i went to open my glovebox to get some crap out that ny buddy left behind, and as i close it, the left side wouldnt stay, turns out the latch on the left side is broken. Is it an easy fix that someone encountered before or should i just take it to a dealer and make them slave over it?

That looks like warranty work to me. Good luck OP.
Sometimes plastic results to be defective due to chemical mixes and fatigue.
Yours was probably a combination of both.

Wow sad that Toyota Quality is going in the shitter. If these vehicles were still made in Japan this shit would never be happening. Good job UAW

The vehicles made in Texas I do believe are not from a union shop.....wages I believe are union scale...was thinking the union may have wanted in but dont think there was enough interest from the hourly workers....could be wrong

If it's brand new there's no question here as to what you should do....

In this particular case I'm thinking it has more to do with where the part itself was made. Inferior plastics.

My question is....why do I see all these threads posted about issues with brand new (still under warranty) trucks asking "is it an easy fix or should I take it back to the dealer?"

My thinking is....its under warrany...make them handle it and document the issue regardless of how minor it is that way if it turns out to be a defect or lemon...its documented.

I have a 2015 Tacoma...My leaf springs had a slight squeak to them when flexed (turning up into my driveway) I could have easily did exactly what the dealer did and sprayed them with white lithium grease. Instead, I took it in...made them aware of the issue....they said ok let us try one method to repair it before we go any further...(they sprayed white lithium grease on it). They documented it in the computer as being an issue. Now if the same thing continues to happen once I'm out of warranty I will still have ground to stand on.

I bought my wife a new 2015 4Runner last year and we had a small malfunction with the fuel gauge...Fuel gauge read between a quarter and empty....The DTE reading was 0 miles till empty. Something wasn't calculating correctly. It has only happened once but I took a picture of the issue, took it to the dealer. They "checked it" and documented the issue in the computer.

All of this to say...Take it to the dealer haha. Make them handle their problems.

    Good luck OP!

OK, I have been driving Toyota and Lexus trucks and suv's since 1992. I have had 1 issue and that was with a new 1997 4Runner, rear seal leaking, dealer fixed. I really like my new Tacoma. Every vehicle has problems, this happens to be a new design so there will be a few more problems than a 2017 model. I drive a 2015 Ford Transit, new model design. I have had several problems with it. Glove box problem? The Transit glove box literally fell off of the dash when I opened it, took it to Ford and they told me that I was putting too much stuff in it. I had the owners manual and some lead pencils in it and they refused the repair. Let us know what Toyota does for you.

Cleaned. Stop the childish bickering. You guys need to understand that trying to understand some people is like trying to smell the #9.

Hey. If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, fore-fleshing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dick-less, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is. Hallelujah. Holy shit. Where's the Tylenol? Everyone just needs to lighten up and enjoy a little Chevy Chase humor.

Hey @mxrider5 - you get into the dealership for that yet?

I want to get the oak leaves off my cabin air filter and not break my glovebox doing it.

You guys are yanking our chains. Neither of these actually happened since 4Runner has always been and are still made in the Toyota Tahara plant in Japan. You know they make Land Cruiser parts there, too, so it's categorically impossible for this plant to screw up.
