I broke my sunglass holder last night. I Left it open, and when I got in, I hit it with my head - one of the hinge posts snapped. I took the whole console down and removed the broken hinge post. I then put the console back up and sent a machine screw from the inside of the holder through where the hinge post was. It seems fine and is stronger than the cheap plastic, but I hate seeing a screw head. In reality, you really can't see it unless you're looking for it, but I know it's there.
I can live with it, but I hate that the trucks new (1 month old) and something's already broken.
Does anyone know how much these cost from the dealer or have any lying around they'd be willing to part with??
Should I replace it or just suck it up and chalk it up to a lesson learned and be a little more careful in the future??

I did the exact same thing when my truck was 2 days old. I told the dealer I hit it with my head and broke it. The dealer gave me a new one under warranty and said it was about a $240.00 piece. (the whole console) I always keep it closed now:eek:

They replaced free of charge??!!?? Under the warranty??
They didn't hassle you because you broke it and it wasn't a defect??
I wouldn't have thought about having it replaced under warranty as I broke it, but if so, I may wait until I go in for the first oil change and talk with them about it.

They didn't have to replace it, but I had just gone through the frame rust buyback and they were being nice to me. I seem to have a pretty good service dept. at the dealer I bought from. You could look around on here for a used console, even one with the thermometer in it, the wiring is there to hook it up. Good luck, maybe your dealer will be in a good mood when you ask.

I did notice the extra wiring harnesses for the thermometer console.
I'll keep an eye out for people listing one for sale.
    Thanks for the info.
