Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
Mine broke on my '06, exact same failure. No one sold a replacement piece that would work, at least not that I could find. I bought a used assembly on Ebay with a motor for $50.

Mine just locked up in the last storm we had. The area around the arm filled with sleet and ice.

Now there are making a poping noise and the motor has a wine or rore to it...
My guess it will need some type of fix on it soon.

Looks like the area is a catch all for snow, ice or just junk.

Has anyone tried using the Dorman nylon bushing part number 49448? Just curious if i can just replace the bushing rather than this whole drilling nonsense

Does anyone perchance know the size nut I would need to secure the windshield wiper transmission to the motor. It keeps unscrewing and I wanted to purchased a lock nut, but don't want to have to take it apart first to figure it out, then go to the store, then install it. I would rather have the part, then take it apart and install. I have tried using lock tight extra strength and in inclement weather it continues to wrench itself free. Rain it's fine, but snow it hates.

    Thanks!

It sounds to me that it may not be the nut. It could be the threads that are slightly stripped.

Got a close up pic of the thread and nut?

Hi, so this thread was a huge help, and right on the money with regards to the cause, but in my case the pivot bushing (driver side) is still in (relatively) good shape, it just literally popped out. After removing the entire assembly and tinkering, just pressing it together by hand seems to hold it together decently. Question - do you think there's enough lateral/torsion forcce in normal operation that failure is still inevitable and thus I should drill it out and do the fix, or do you think re-pressing it and trying it out is worthwhile? Like, once it pops, is it basically hooped? Thanks!

also curious of the fit/compatibility of this bushing. In my opinion, buying a simple new bushing and popping it in is hella easier than removing the whole assembly and drilling shit.

Here is my fix for this link popping out of its socket. Il happened on my '08 Tacoma in the heart of winter, so I did not want to spend a lot of time fixing it outside. I used an old about 8 inch long section of bicycle inner tube. I cut a roughly 1/2 inch hole at one end and inserted this tube in the linkage and tied the other end, after extending it somewhat, to the truck frame. This tube acts as a spring forcing the socket into its holder.

Of course I cleaned up the socket and holder and regreased the joint before inserting the tube. It's been a month since the fix and it holds up. I make sure the blades are not stuck in ice before operating the wipers. I had the exact same problem with my 10 year old Frontier. This is a bad design!

I just had to do this repair to my passenger side after it failed last night. I drilled mine out and put a bolt through the center of the old bushing. to me the hardest part of the job was removing the reinstalling the plastic cover that gives you access to the wiper motor and assembly. I should have taken more pictures but I was in a rush, had to get to work.

I'm looking for a way to separate the bushing to get it out without drilling...

For those who need to do this - you don't have to pull the whole motor assembly - the passenger arm will pop off completely leaving the rest intact.

Don't use Dorman Part # 49449 - it's too large and will break during install when you try to press it in...
