Has anyone found a bug deflector that they really like?

I have been considering getting one since I drive a lot of highway miles and that tends to be directly connected to little paint chips all over the hood.

i never get bugs on my windows but i have been getting quite a few small chips in my paint from rocks, those bug shields will actually help that?

There have been alot of complaints about the Tacoma bug deflector gradually wearing away paint on the hood on the edges. I think the wind and engine vibration cause rubbing. So far i haven't heard anyone praise the toyota deflector but i've heard alot of complaints about it

Hmmm... did they install the mylar pads that come with it?
Mine was a very snug tight fit with the brackets, I had to seat them
with a small plastic mallet. I guess I'll have to cehck that when I get home.

What I've heard is that the mylar pads wear away over time. I've got the AVS Bugflector II and window shades on my Christmas list.

i dont know if i'd do the bug deflector but i for sure want the window things for when it's raining, i always drive with my windows open a little even if it's freezing outside. the fresh air keeps me alert and reminds me that i'm not playing a video game ya know

exactly what happened to mine....so instead of rock chips i got paint chips from the mylar rubbing away and eventually having the bracket just dig into the paint ...took it off a year ago ..not one rock chip

TRUST ME GUYS, the toyota bug guards kevlar strips are just a couple pieces of plastic that the metal brackets wear right through. I went and bitched to the dealer I bought it at a year before and they were so surprised by the damage their bug guard did to my hood that they gave me a free paint job. It happened in less than 3 months on my buddies new tacoma and he got painted too at a different dealership. Good luck on getting your new paint job. :) Hint, hint.

Yeah, that's actually one of the better grills I've seen.

I dont remember what brand it is but its also one of the cheaper grilles i've seen. I think he said he paid about $70 for it. I think it snaps on over the original grill so you dont have to do any cutting. The only thing i dont like is that its not solid and you can see the toyota emblem. I'm thinking about getting it though and just painting the emblem black

the emblem takes 4 seconds to pop off and back on, i painted mine black. when i debadged my truck i was planning on painting the emblems and putting them back on, but i think if i put them back on at all i'm going to cut the "ma" off of tacoma so it just says taco lol

Finally got around to looking at the Toyota hood protector clips today.

I removed the shield and each clip seperately.
The mylar pads were fine except for the center pad, which did show
more pressure had been applied to this one than any of the others.

I removed the mylar pads and am happy to report there is no damage.:)

It had only been on the truck for 3 weeks so it wasnt enough time for
    the pads to ware through.

Now it needs a bath as I have 5 square super clean areas on the hood
where the hood protector used to be mounted. :p

Thanks for the heads up and saving me from damaging my hood.
