    Bug repellent MOD : My son said its the stupidest thing he ever seen, I have to agree but she only has 900 miles on her, and I am leaving tonight for a 1400 mile round trip. Traveling through the night I should hit just about every bug between here and S. Carolina. Just trying to keep her new for a bit longer, I hope the tape comes off. I read many "tuner" threads that it does easily and works.

    The center has a clear chip protector and didn't need the tape.

    Ok... Flame away.:crapstorm::crapstorm:

    Is that painter's tape? Man that is the funniest thing I've seen but I bet you that will work. I'm not sure if I'm more impressed with your ingenuity or your willingness to be ridiculed. Whatever works... it's your truck... more power to ya'! Good luck with the drive.

    Hey if it works, it works. We took a yearly trip from Seattle up to Bella Coola, B.C. which is about 700-800 miles one way. For many trips the last 200 miles was in gravel and the bugs were like tar. I think it's great .. and cheap :D

    Scotch Painters Tape. Once I get done driving through the night, I may pull over and rip it off at a rest stop. Most bugs aim for the headlights at night, If not, I will pull off as soon as arrive.

    That's a good idea. I have seen guys do this when they take their cars to the track, never thought about doing it for a road trip.

    OP, actually it's a really good & cheap idea if you want to keep your truck's front end looking new. Just not for me. Dings, scratches, and scrapes... that's why I love trucks. Now, if I had a high-end sports car or classic I would definitely do this if I wanted to avoid bug shrapnel.

    I saw a Ford owner that had done this just last weekend near Orlando, FL. I figured that was what his aim was as he had covered all forward edges of the truck including the door handles. I can't blame him due to the paint damaging nature of the love bugs in the deep south and especially Florida.

    I honesty laughed out loud when i seen the pic. Don't think I've ever seen anyone do that to a truck! Should have really went to town and covered the rest of the grill. I for one would never do that, it's a truck and meant to be used as such! I bet your gonna really freak out when you see your first stone chip eh?

    I do have a few chips already, just trying to prevent all the hard work of scrubbing thsoe blood and guts off, especially after it bakes for a week in the 90 degree weather.

    If you wax it really heavy on the front the bugs will slide right off when you wash it. I think I have 7 coats of wax on my truck now. Never worried about bugs now.

    Or get some rejex. It's good stuff to substitute wax and works great to stop bug damage.

    Yeah, waxing would work great and just wash the truck as soon as you get there. I know what you mean tho, those bugs can be really hard on the paint and difficult to clean off.

    No one even mentioned taping over the painters tape with black duct tape. Would be legit.
