Let's see some installed pics and comments about the different bug shields/hood protectors available for the 3rd gens.

I am considering one for my TRD Sport after getting a small chip in my windshield.

I had a WeatherTech on my 2017, but I recently removed it and replaced it with Lamin-X bug film. I prefer the clean look.

Thanks! Did the Weathertech provide any noticeable "protection" and did it rub on the fenders?

Is that the one that attaches to the hood with 3M Tape or with the screws under the hood? Looks good. I want the matte black one AVS makes, but don't want to damage the paint.

I bought the truck with it installed.. it has 3 or 4 small screws.. you can always put the screws in (self tapers I think), and then remove them, and put some nail polish on the hole, and the screws before re-installing.

I really want the flush mount rain guards that mount in channel for the doors..

I don’t know to be honest. I don’t think it made a huge difference. It stays far away from the paint. No rubbing at all.

    Thanks

Nice to see installed Tacoma pics and not just an image of another truck on a website.
Interesting, the AVS and Weathertech look very similar in shape.
@ChaseFan The AVS Aeroskin II sits flush with the hood, has a small lip in the center and is held with 3m tape, correct? Does it deflect bugs and small stones away from the windshield?

For whatever it's worth, I put a deflector on my 2007 Colorado when it was new. It held up well, and though slightly faded, still looked good when I traded it a month ago. As far as I could tell, it didn't keep bugs, rain, or stones off of my windshield. But it did look nice.

What it WAS very effective at was keeping me from going through a car wash, from my fear that the car wash brushes would tear it off. Which was a good thing. The deflector helped me avoid the temptation to run it through a car wash, but instead wash it by hand, as I knew that I should.

So partly because of the deflector, the original paint on the Colorado looked great when I traded it in.

Sooo... these things really don't make much difference as far as deflecting bugs but look cool. If that's the case, I won't waste my money but man these 3rd gen windshields are bug killers. Guess it's hard to tell by the shape of the truck because I had a mid 90's RAM and put a low profile bug shield on it and that made a huge difference. Some times you could watch the bugs go up and over, rarely hit any.
