Glad you are making progress. Did you shorten the length of the box to account for the extra space your hinge is gonna take up? If you look at my design, I placed the hinge about 2 inches from the rear so the box could take up the entire compartment and so a couple of items could be left there and I could still open the top. If your box was built to the size of the compartment you may have issue with the extended hinge. Hopefully I'm wrong. Looks good either way. Definitely very sturdy.

I read up on the infringe you have to read thier patent to see if your with in the limits but if you are you can file a patent that allows you to use the console or the safe thus keeping Console Safe from makeing smallers ones to be used in the console but you have to read thier patent first

    Nice job.

You should trim the hinge pin a little and weld up the ends of the hinge. Wouldn't take much to just punch the pin out and remove the top.

"PATENT PENDING" does not mean you have a patent. It only means that a patent has been applied for..... AND, you may not be approved for various reasons. You (your company) may even find that your design infringes on someone else's existing patent.
Even if you do get a patent approved, what the OP is doing is perfectly legal (as long as they do not offer their product for sale or commercial purposes). At this point, the only thing you have "protected" is the name: console vault.

I used this write up to build mine. Mine came out pretty good in my opinion. It wasn't too hard. Cheap little fun project to test out your metal fab skills.

I just ordered a $100 harbor freight welder to learn how to weld with and this will by first project. Very cool!
