Will that manual be availible for everyone? I've been pondering this idea when my 1gr-fe dies

I may make it available for a very nominal fee. A ton of work and countless hours went into these. There are actually three of these that go for my swap. They cover swapping from either a 4Runner or a tundra or for using both.

This is just some of the notes that I have put into almost every page of all three of these manuals.

You mean IF your 1grfe dies. Those things are pretty tough motors.

I was just thinking of asking you this earlier today. haha Damn man! You have like 700lbs on me? Is this with the vehicle empty and a full tank of gas? I weighed 5440.
Why the 4.7 instead of say the 4.6 or the 5.7? Easier to swap in? I like the idea of running the 4.6's auto tranny. It is identical to our current auto tranny only it has a 2nd overdrive gear that will bring the cruising rpm's down quite a bit.

Full tank of gas and no tools or people in it.

The 5.7 has a completely different tranny and t case and I would have to have Marlin make adapters for it and that would cost a fortune. Not to mention the size of it. The 4.7 stroked is a perfect combination providing me with more than enough torque for what I do. I'm not trying to be a stop light hero.

Don't really like the 4.6 or it's transmission for wheeling. The A750F is an awesome tranny and has worked very well for me even while the truck is verticle. Love it.

Yes, but you'll need this bell housing from a V8 4Runner, Tundra, or Sequoia. You'll need the Torque converter as well.

I'm not making a kit. If I choose to do it it'll only be the manual of what I did with my vehicle. It would only be a start for someone else who would want to do it.

The stroker kit is from Lextreme.

Yeah the 5.7 tranny is geared weird. More for towing I'd guess. What's wrong with the A850F tranny from the 4.6 though? I haven't looked into it much but it looks like they just took the A750F and added a 6th gear to it which I would think would be a little better for highway driving.

I was looking at doing a swap, my MPG's aren't good anyways. May end up getting a TRD S/C. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I dont know much about that transmission. I'll have to look into it. I know the logic will be quite different from the 4.7 though. That could pose a problem.

You mentioned your tranny doing well when vertical. Are you still on the stock tranny? I ask because I have issues with tranny temp entirely too often. When I get vertical for any period of time I typically get the oil light and tranny temp lights at the same time and it shuts down. I thought about a dry sump for the engine or perhaps a more rearward pickup of sorts but that wont solve the tranny issue.

:eek:How vertical are we talking here?! I've never had that issue and I've had it pretty vertical on some hill climbs and in the rocks. When you say any period of time does that mean that as soon as you get vertical the lights come on or does it have to be vertical for a little bit?

It takes a little bit, here is an old pic going up a slot in Ocotillio Wells. This is no biggie but the lane off to the left is steeper, with front and rear locked I have the traction but always stall out near the top

Hard to say because pictures never do anything justice, but I think I've been at least that steep or steeper with no problems. I did a hill climb that I couldn't get enough grip with front and rear locked and half way rolled/slid back down it after I made it about 50-70 feet up it. It was kind of sketchy backing down it. Haha. My wife and I did some hiking after that and we practically skiied down that slope on our feet. But I was on that slope for at least a couple minutes with no problem.

I've got myself stuck trying climbing some steep sand dunes as well without lights either. The only times I've ever had the motor stall on me is when I am rock crawling in 4Lo and I let the Taco roll back at all. It only take a few inches of roll back and the motor stalls. Freaked me out the 1st couple times until I realized what it was. I've only had that happen a handful of times now though.

Sounds like you may be low on fluid. A buddy's truck was acting that way and it ended up he just changed the fluid, but didn't check it at the proper temp using the overflow tube method so it was still low.

Check your fluid levels because I never have any issues like that at all. Oh Yes I am automatic.
