I second your points. The most vulnerable part of his setup is the auto transmission. Autos only have one enemy--heat. Towing makes them hot. If I were going to tow anything over 2,000 lbs I would not do so without a trans cooler.

John- We LOVE this truck! The 1998 we replaced was perfect- fully loaded and had the tow package already. This one has everything but the tow ability, so we're working on getting it to that point. I doubt we'll tow much exceeding 3500 lbs, but I like having that option. It IS a truck, after all! While looking for trucks of this age, we ran across a ton up in CT and the NJ area. Happy hunting!

For the most part I agree with you but I haul fairly frequently over the 2k lb mark and have no reservations not having a transmission cooler. As long as you take it easy, the torque convertor will lock up so you're not generating a lot of heat. If you keep your foot buried in the skinny pedal, then the torque convertor unlocks and you generate a ton of heat. All in how you drive it :)

Is yours a 4 banger? I responded to Fioli since I know from talking to him that his is a 4banger manual, which is what I've been looking for. I need mileage more than towing power, but it would be nice. Did that description of truck come with a tow package?
