Waiting on insurance to tell me what they will give to repair. Looks more worse than what it really is, at least I think. Still drives fine. Looks to me mainly the plastic bumper damage and fender flair and fog light also. I do not see any frame or metal damage. Support pieces behind the bumper cover look fine. Should I have an auto body shop put oem stuff back on it or go with a steel bumper? I have a 17 TRD Sport stock suspension. At some point I will do a front suspension upgrade but not right now. I like the look of the ATH Fab bumper. Don't know if I can put something like a steel bumper on without doing a front suspension upgrade or not. I will also need a fender flair and some bumper caps, don't see any bumpers for sale around me right now I will only be able to work with whatever insurance is going to give me. I am hoping that I can just take the bumper off and be able to bolt something else up. That is if Ican put a steel one on without a spring upgrade. What are y'all suggestions?IMG_2302.jpg

You could run an aluminum bumper probably without upgrading suspension but ideally you’d want to beef up suspension before adding bumper or do both at the same time.

Your front end would just sag a bit if not. Make sure to get alignment either way.

I get that it will be better to upgrade it. Just wander if I could get by for a bit without it. Mainly daily driver, camping, fire roads in wilderness, muddy pastures use really. I'll definitely research some aluminum bumper. Only thing I was seeing was steel.

I know of 2nd gens that have run full ARBs with winches and no lift. Not sure how much sag you’d get. You technically could do it, but not sure what that might bind or do to your alignment/tires

If you are planning on selling or trading it in at anytime then I would let the insurance take care of it and put it back to stock. If you are planning on keeping it for long term then there many options out there. I am pretty sure, for what that is worth, that putting it back to original condition is gone to be the most expensive. So you may want to let the insurance cover that. If you really want an after market bumper you could remove the factory bumper and store it just in case you decide to sell the truck or trade it in later on. Just an option I would think of...

I see what your saying. I bought the truck 6 months ago after it got got out of a shop cause a person hit the previous owner in it. I knew the history of it since he had bought it new. I love the look of the color matched OEM, just hate to think if another deer runs out in front of me again. I'll be hanging on to this truck for at least 10+ years. At least till my kids get out of high school. I appreciate all the info so far from people so far. I like to think of all my options before I do something (OCD/ADHD) LOL. Insurance should get back to me this week. However if I take it to a shop I know its going to be a couple months before it gets repaired. I have a pro grille sitting under the tree right now. Thankfully the deer missed the grille.

Only bumper that can go up against a deer and win is ARB. All others will just get messed up.

There’s a guy on here who hit two cows with a demello steel bumper at like 80mph and drove home.

I have to call bullshit. That's like hitting 2K at 80mph. If it was head on, engine would be back in the seat.
Fun physics experiment... Gently touch your wife's butt cheek. Now, haul off and smash it as hard as you can!
When you wake up, you will realize soft things, like cows, get almost solid at high speeds. #physics

at the end of Nov. bad lake effect snow storm was here, my truck in the 4WD but still skid and slip hard into the mailbox post and the whole passenger lower front bumper cracked also the grill, and i bought the steel bumper from Extreme Terrain to replace, easy to DIY , need to modified the OEM fog light fasteners to re-attach
My truck is midnight black so it's no worry for color match, but your is white then probably need some painting work
pictures attach was take yesterday haven't done fog light yet

Here’s the post. I guess I might have mid remembered the mph. I can’t find it, might have been thinking about when I hit a 200lb hog in my mini doing 80mph.

I’m not sure you could kill a cow going 10mph. But apparently you’re the “physics” genius.

Have you ever hit anything at a full 10 mph?
How about a full 5 mph?
I can say that crash tests don't go beyond 40 mph because humans won't survive at a head on crash past 45 mph. I am not a genius but I understand the math.

Plenty of people have survived head on crashes above 45mph. There’s proof on this forums. There’s proof in the thread I even linked.

I hit a 200lb hog going 80mph in a mini Cooper. Last time I checked 80 is more than 5 and 10 multiplied together.

The original post, that I linked, hit two cows ON THE FREEWAY and survived. So either that person is lying or you’re just one of those difficult people who always has to be “right.”

Use your math to explain that.

Name me one instance where they have hit something head on at above 45 mph and survived. You cannot count braking, or scrubbing off speed by hitting something else like a guardrail or another vehicle. I mean head on into a concrete abutment or something like that. Good luck because you are at over 90G's deceleration. Nobody lives at that decel rate.
Sure, it's easy to say I was going 80, then hit the brakes, then glanced off the guardrail and then went through a ditch and survived. Nobody will say they hit a bridge support head on at 80 mph because they cannot talk because they are dead. 45 mph is max.

    This article https://www.motorbiscuit.com/speed-die-car-crash/

    says
“The chances that a driver or a passenger dies in a head-on car crash is:

    • 5% at 37 mph (60 kph)
    • 10% at 43 mph (70 kph)
    • 20% at 56 mph (90 kph)”
    Sounds like it’s survivable.

This article states that “at 70 mph, your chances of surviving a head-on collision drop to 25 percent.”
