Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but starting a week ago, I have this burning plastic smell when my ac is on. Smells like burning wires or plastic. I opened the hood and looked all around and could not see anything that looked like it would be causing the issue. I don't have a clue if this is something I should worry about or what. When I smell it, it is only when the ac is on, if I turn it off, it goes away.
Thanks for any info you can give me.

Look at your AC compressor clutch.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that tomorrow. Oddly enough, I just made the 4.5 hour drive back home and never smelt it. Possibly could be because I had the ac on low most of the trip versus it being on full blast all the time while I was in Kansas City.

With that being said, it could be the fan motor resistor plug and only happen when the fan is on a certain speed. I'm not sure exactly where that is on your truck, but I have seen a couple posts recently about the connector melting.

Is the smell in the cab or outside in the engine bay?

Yep. Sounds like its probably what I described earlier. Until you find and fix it, make a note of what speed(s) the fan is on when you smell it and just don't use those speed(s) until you can fix it.

My blower motor harness connection on my 2001 became black and burned once. It was causing that smell and an intermittent operation of the fan on high setting. I went to the junk yard and found a connector off of a wrecked Camry and spliced it into the good part of the harness on the truck. It fixed it...
