So there I was, dealing with crackly speakers that would sometimes not work at all and randomly turn back on. I dealt with it for a few months as I didn’t have the time to rip all my door panels off and replace speakers. One day after getting in the truck I notice a very prominent burnt plastic smell. I look in the engine bay, not there, get in the truck and notice it’s coming from the radio. Radio screen is now black and does not work. Everything else in the dash works (clock, hazards, airbag etc). Also, the fuse for the radio was blown. I disassembled the OEM radio and couldn’t find any clearly burnt components in the radio. Did a faulty short on a speaker cause my radio to blow up? Did the fuse not blow properly causing my radio to blow up? Why did my radio blow help? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Tacoma World. Sorry to hear about your radio, that is a bit odd. I haven't heard that happening to many (if any) stock radios so I don't think it's common. That being said the OEM units aren't known to be the best quality - common issues are typically Bluetooth not connecting and the LCD screen dying. I'd check the wiring connectors to see if you can find anything burnt there, and then decide if you want to stay with OEM or go aftermarket as a replacement. Used OEM units can sometimes be found in the Buy/Sell/Trade classifieds or on your local Cragslist or similar. Good luck.
