Yep... considering i was just researching this the other day and came across an entire thread with DSM (i think) saying that the 5100s are only for 2"of lift and not recommended for stock... unless i totally misread the entire thread, its possible.

looks like I may have a set of rear 5100s to get rid of

I think I know exactly when it happened. I was SLOWLY crossing a pretty good size rain wash out, and when my left rear tire dropped, it made a pretty loud THUD! But, the rear has always been pretty rough off road, so I wasn't too worried. I believe that is when it happened though.

    Good afternoon everyone...
Wow 'False Advertising" not really sure where to start with this one, so I figured I would answer this one and leave Marco out of it.
It does not state anywhere that we say that shock works with 2" of lift for any off roading what so ever.We say 1.5" max and 2.0" if you are a mall crawler and even then hauling ass over a speed bump could do it.
I am not defending any other company but DSM in this response and pretty harsh words to be said for a company that constantly bends over and takes care of a lot of TW Members no matter what and even when its not our fault and the manufacturers will not warranty a shock.
Never said it would work on a 2" lift rear application...I guess we should start raising our prices to match everyone else to make up for all of the shocks we give away to make sure we take care of our customers?

I just saw the PM about the shock and Marco will respond in morning I am sure..It is 7:53pm here at Night and I figured I would chime in now and just throw out my 2 cents...

Someone else already chimmed in about getting a measurement from mount to mount the truck at full droop and at ride height to be sure and that is what I (Sonny) would suggest to be on the safe side..

False advertising....Wow I guess I now know where DSM stands in the eyes of some of its members...

Have a good night and we will make sure we take care of the customer with the broken shock as usual.

    Thank you for your time,
    Sonny

after reading this whole thread, i have one question....you guys with the 5100s, what part number rear do you have? if you have part number BE5-C478-T0 (about 8.9" of travel-the ones that come with the front/rears sold as a set), i can definitely see with a 2" lift how it would be easy to blow a shock. if you have part number BE5-B110-T5 (about 11" of travel-ones you get seperate from the kit), are these holding up with a MILD lift? im by no means a lift guru, but seems like a no brainer that you should use the second option with 2-3" of lift. just curious. when i get back from the desert i want to level out my truck with these and maybe get about 2" total.

i can only speak for myself when i say that i was never blaming you guys. i fully respect you as a business as well as individuals, i think i have talked to most of you guys there on the phone or throught email. each one of you is extremely knowledable and proffesional. you just advertise what bilstein says... nothing wrong there.

i have bought from you before, and i will continue to do so. you are not exagerating when you say you bend over backwards for TW members, and we all appreciate that very much.

thanks for taking care of use here

I just read this thread, and Im sorry to hear about your shock. But I have been wondering about it as well..
I thaught I was good to go with the 5100's with my 2" AAL, atleast thats what I heard/read on Toytec's website. But my shocks top out way before my springs do...

So that leaves me to think I should really upgrade before I do blow a shock. :(

would the ones that come with the RCD kit be better to run with a 2" lift?

    In my sig
Interesting thread. Keep in mind if u run longer shocks ur going to need longer brake lines. What about using straps on each side of the axle to prevent shock from fully extending? Kind of like the lt guys use for the front.

    Never thaught of that!^^^^

Maybe I could space up my Brake line braket, instead of getting longer lines?

we use them on the rear too.

i was going to suggest straps. they would be a very easy solution... but alot of people prob dont want to weld to their frame and axle, even though it's not a big deal... IDK

WELL SHIT! This has go me thinking now...I'm gonna look into some Fox Shocks for the rear...probably the ones like 08pretaco has....they're made for a FJ but Off Road Warehouse will send the fittings for the Tacoma if requested...I guess you get more travel outta the FJ Shocks :notsure:

Instead of longer brake lines, couldnt you just space that Brake line Bracket up a inch or so, and just use a longer bolt?

Or does it need to be more then that?
