Would the longer 5100's work well with a 2" AAL? It says 3-4"...

I would think so, but if I understood Sonny correctly last page, they would only "work" if you don't go off road.

the fox rear shocks are not ment to be used with a lifted rear end... using them like this could will result in the same problem as the 5100's.

    blown shock

Best way to find out is disconnect the shocks and jack the rear up by the hitch.

What I don't understand about all this is, the Manufacturer gives out extended and collapsed lengths of all their shocks, why has nobody thought of measuring their extended and collapsed lengths and buying the right shock that fits.. a 5100 is not a specific shock its built in many sizes. buy the one that fits....

Oh boy...my new lift has been on for only a month and this pops up...sure hope that this won't become a common problem. I'm not saying that the 5100's aren't a quality shock, but I hope that they can handle my lift with the Dakar leaf pack, if they were meant for a stock truck.

All I have to add here is I had no issues using 5100s with 1.5 AAL on the 05 AC Prerunner but they saw occassional offroad action at most with less flexing than 4x4s would see. Not sure of which part number I had at this point because of trading it in on the 08 Prerunner. That being said, the only other thing I can add here is..............I HAVE A FULL SET OF EXTENDED SS BRAKE LINES NEVER INSTALLED THAT I WILL SELL IF ANYONE LIFTED IS INTERESTED. PM for pics if so.

tons of places sell limit straps... SDHQ, poly performance, kartek...

the brackets are just tabs of metal with a hole for a bolt to go through... simple to make. or you could use weld on shocks tabs

    Sonny,

Please note the question mark after my sentence. I did not suggest that you were falsely advertising. I asked whether other members were suggesting this to be the case, which is what it sounded like from their posts.

If anything, the question was a suggestion that surely the shocks WOULD work for a lifted application, since well respected vendors like DSM and Wheelers indicated they would.

I, in fact, purchased my 5100's from DSM and would do business with you again. And, I'm the one that PM'ed you about this thread in the first place so you could clear your name, because several answered the question I posted above with "yes".

And for the record, I am not trying to point the finger at anyone who posted in here (expecially Matt or Boyd, I do not want it to come out that way), regarding a claim of false advertising.

It just got to a point last night where everyone was seeming to disagree about what we had read about the product vs. the personal experiences of some owners of the shocks. I felt like we had to have some input from those who market the product. That's why I PMed Sonny and Marco. I also PMed Dan at Wheelers.

Once again I am a happy DSM customer (also a happy Wheelers customer), and in no way meant to suggest that they do not look out for their customers, and bend over backwards for them, in every way possible. That's another reason I PMed them. If you all feel like my question alone compromised that, I will be happy to edit it.

    Hi, Everybody!

This is Marco, Sonny is out at the track tuning a Pro2 Truck. But I did speak to him late last night about this.

1st things 1st: To the OP, call me toll free, and we'll get you taken care of on this! As we do with all our customers...

I think the way the "false advertising" post read, it looked as if we got lumped in with others who claim the shocks will work with 2" or more of lift. And that we were being accused of false advertising. That is what was frustrating to us. We have never advertised that Tacoma 5100 rear shocks will work for 2" or more of lift.

Some of our frustration as a vendor, is that when stuff like this happens, members are quick to come on a forum and start bashing. Not specifically referring to this thread, but more in general. Fact is, as many of you know when you're a DSM customer, all you have to do is pick up the phone and call us. We will take care of you, simple as that. No "policies" or red tape just us, and what we can do to keep you as a customer.

    So.........

    Per Bilstein:
Standard Tacoma 5100 rear shocks are good only for "0-1" lift.
(1.5" lift is ok too, on non-TSB, mall crawler)

    Per RCD:
5100 rear shocks from their 4.5" Kit, are good for 3-4" of rear lift.

All the extended and collapsed dimensions are listed on our page, and you should ALWAYS measure, just to be certain. ;)

We are here as not only a Vendor on TW, but a resource for you as well. You can call us and ask as many questions as you need to, even if you don't buy from us. We will always do our best to provide you with the information you seek.

Thanks for your time, everyone. Have a great Hump Day!!!

    -Marco
