#3 for our household. His name is Nugget. The shelter had him named Taco. His bros and sisters were all adopted...I couldn't stand to leave him behind.

after having rescue for close to a month... it'll be the only way I go. She's a total weirdo and absolutely loves being an inside dog because her last owner kept her outside 24/7. She was an owner surrender because she ate her last owner's chicken which i'm not too sure why you would give up a dog that is doing what a hunting dog does.

Every dog I've ever had has been adopted. You just have to wait for the breed you're looking for to come along.

Im going to adopt when i get a dog. Ill try to find a young adult. Past the tough puppy stage, but young enough to have a lot of years with. And it'll be a male rotty.

My dog is a lab/rott mix. She is by far the smartest and most affectionate dog I've ever had.

my mothers got a rott that weighs dang near as much as me. He actually sits higher than my trucks seat. He is very loving of his family, but very protective and weary of strangers. if somebody broke into the house at night, theyd be leaving in pieces. Nothing against small dogs, but a big reason id get a dog is for security.

My dog is a rescue. Got her at just a few months old. Great personality and no health issues so far. 1 1/2 yrs old now. Definitely go rescue if you are looking for a good family dog. Wouldn’t go pure bred unless you’re looking for a show dog or a hunting dog/any other reason why the breed was bred

It’s not rich people who buy. People with specific purposes in mind or people who don’t like to gamble with genetics/health.

I have adopted dogs in the past and I will probably adopt a 3rd gsd in the future.

Puppy mill? Ever heard of responsible breeders? There are tons of responsible breeders. And no, they don’t advertise on Craigslist. So you think police dogs come from mills?

She only does this in the car. This pic was taken about 5 minutes after I left the house.

There are breed specific rescues if you’re interested in a certain breed. Our shepherd came from Westside German Shepherd Rescue in Los Angeles. AKC papers and all. We had adopted two other shepherds previously from local rescues, and become fond of the breed. They were both older dogs though when they came to us, 8 and 12, and our time together was far too short. Wanted a younger one this time around, and not having any success locally, reached out to BC Shepherd rescue and Manitoba German Shepherd rescue. Both would not adopt out if province. Found Westside on the internet, and about 10 days later, our 10 month old baby boy was on a plane to Canada. He’s definitely got a laid back Cali surfer dude personality.

Our two girls were adopted on the same day from separate local rescues, AARCS, and Pawsitive Match. The little ginger is a corgi pit bull chow cross. Smart as heck, bit high strung at times, but such a little charmer. Snores louder than any dog I’ve ever heard though. Gotten use to it now and can sleep through it. I’d have made her sleep elsewhere, but she keeps the back of my knees warm at night.
    78463CDD-16DD-4C41-8115-49B3B6B4BA2F.jpg
And last but certainly not least. In fact, I shouldn’t play favourites, but this dog is so special to me. She’s a chow border collie mix. Was a feral reserve dog living in a burned out car. She’s become quite accustomed to the life of a domesticated dog. Would rather hold her bladder for 14 hours than get out of a warm bed to go out in the cold snow for a pee. She’s just the sweetest dog alive. Never leaves my side gently taps you with her paw when she wants a pat. Or not so gently flicks your hand perfecty on top of her head for a scratch. She’s a natural born therapy dog. My dad has dementia, and she just sits with him for hours. He can’t communicate well anymore, but with her, the words come out crystal clear. Tells her what a great dog she is, how much he loves her, that she’s his best friend. Just melts me. I’m amazed by her natural ability to comfort.
    6D70851F-2471-490A-99F0-BB44F6E81241.jpg
Anyways, what I think I was trying to do was state my point for adopting from a rescue. Some remarkable dogs out there that just need to be given a chance to shine.

I fully agree that adopting is awesome for most people. But if you have a specific job/sport/ ipo in mind for the dog it is much smarter to go from a breeder. For your average family rescue is a great way.

a dog from a rescue is not the same as a dog from the pound. a rescue dog is typically going to be ridiculously expensive since the rescue typically pays for any required medical care and housing/food/etc and passes that on to the person adopting the dog. my dog from the pound was a $15 adoption fee and done. she was already fixed and a basic checkup and shots at the vet was around $100. i've seen cases from the rescues where they literally just drove to pick up a litter of puppies and still want $400-500 in adoption fees for them.
