    It's all about displacement.

[QUOTEyou might have heard this back in the 90's ford sold all the stock shares. when dodge signed the contract with cummins ][/QUOTE]

Yes, International Navistar has been the sole supplier of Ford diesel motors since '79.

Diesels endure higher maintenance costs but if properly maintained they will last a long time. Neglect of a diesel motor is not a good thing.

I'd like the Cummins, but I can't stand a Dodge. I'd get the Chevy with the Duramax.

The interior kinda sucks, I don't know about the 2010's but the others were cheap.

The motor was bullet proof on the Cummins though. If I bought a Diesel that's what I'd go. We had 2500 Cummins on our work trucks and even in -40 -50ºC they still turned over no problems. The newer engines don't get as good fuel economy as the 5.9L they had in 07, but they still haul ass and keep on tickin'.

Get the new 6.4 ford. Put a chip, CAI, exhaust and do the delete pipe mod and you got 550-600hp right off the bat!
Cummins is my second choice with chevy and GM being dead last.
I've been to allot of diesels rally in texas and I rarely ever see chevy diesels modded.
Also the 2010 ford diesel is the Scorpion and it supposed to be awesome! Made strictly by Ford instead of International.

And you'll have no factory warranty on top of that 550-600hp.

For me, it'd be a tough call going between a Cummins or a duramax. I like the look of the dodge better and kinda like the cummins better, but the interior on the chevy/gmcs and overall fit/finish/quality kicks dodges ass. Im kinda a chevy guy, but I think I might sway to the cummins. And I'd stay the hell away from the 6.0 and 6.4 powerstrokes. The new 'scorpion' powerstroke diesel that ford is coming out with might be better.... lets hope.

And who exactly 'needs' that extra power? Most of these diesels will pull at least 11k lbs standard.

    Lots.
I just want to be the jackass and say buy a supercharged Tundra. Gutz's tundra puts 520 to the wheels.

Whichever you choose good luck with your purchase. Hope its lasts as long as your old one that's a lot of miles.

Read some stuff about the new Scorpion Powerstroke in Diesel Power today. Looks high tech and quite interesting. DP estimates power and torque to be 380/700 respectively. Not bad if its true.
They also had a LBZ duramax with only engine tuning(no exhaust, intake, or any other mods) that was laying down 600+hp and 11xx tq! not bad.

    just remember FORD stands for:
    F ound
    O n
    R oad
    D ead

at my last job they bought a brand new 2008 GMC 3500HD with the allison tranny to replace our dodge dually (cummins) as our livestock transport truck. going from that dodge to the GMC was like night and day.

as far as power goes... no contest. i was hauling about 10-11,000 lbs worth of trailer and steers and hardly noticed they were back there. i could actually accelerate up hills under load where as i struggled to just maintain my speed in the dodge. i drove it from NY to oregon, oklahoma, mississippi, and florida and it was an extremely comfortable ride...

    i say GMC FTW!!

Look at the new 3v v10 gasser in the f350. Fantastic motor.

I wouldn't get a modern diesel. They have made them so complicated in order to pass emissions that they just aren't the same.

Unless you can find a nice older 7.3 PSD, I would avoid a diesel unless you tow long distances and you do it for a living.

My good friend hauls cars. He got a 6.0 PSD excursion and sold it a month later. It let him down while on a tow. He is back to a v10 excursion now.

    Good luck.

Don't give a penny to Government Motors.

    Nothing yet, brand new!
I can't speak for the newer ones. My dad has an older Dodge Cummins dually and it has never let him down. That old ISB motor with a manual transmission has around 300k miles on it. It looks rough as hell but it runs and pulls all day long. He tows a stock trailer and 34ft travel trailer with that thing.
The new emissions are throwing a curve into the diesel market so much so that Cat is pulling out of the over-the road market altogether.
