What should i buy her for her first gun? she has shot before but just wants to do some target practice and just shot with me in general. I was thinking just a .22 or a .17 gamo big cat 1200. She just wants something so she can tag along with me and still wont break the bank.

Next weekend im heading out to the gun show at the expo center in portland, and i hear they have .22 sometimes for wicked cheap. My buddy got 2 winchesters for 25 bucks! So i figured i would just pick one up for her there. Anything in patictular to look for, for a beginner gun?

Also if i buy though a private seller will i need anything to purchase the gun?

My wife (NOT GF, would never buy a GF a gun) likes her .380 and for plinking she uses a GSG-5. For cheaper options check your local gun store and see their new/used .22's.

Most gun shows jack up the prices...but if you get a good deal there, more power to ya.

22's are good, but she might get bored quickly with it. Mausers are going pretty cheap at sportsmansguide.com. Just get a good recoil pad for the butt and a shoulder pad.
Just make sure you have a gunsmith check out anything you plan on getting.

NEVER arm the girlfriend. Nothing good will come of this! :) Good luck. A .22 would be a good start. Cheap to buy and cheap to shoot.

A .22 OR .17 would be perfect. no recoil to scare her and turn her off from shooting. .22's have super cheap ammo. if you get a ruger 10/22 you can customize it to however she wants

My wife does very well with a S&W M&P 40. Could have bought a smaller caliber for her but she does well with the 40 and I know if needed she will have some knock down power behind her rather than leave her at home with a little plinker that may or may not do the job if placement isn't in a vital area. Debated between that and the 9 but the recoil on the 40 is not much worse than a 9 and again decided on a little more knock down power. I leave her at home with the 40 and 6 mags loaded with double tap hollow points. As long as she can get to the pistol, I am confident that she will do some damage and stop the threat.
